Friday's MLB stars of the night: Enter Paul Skenes

As has been the theme all week long in the MLB, dominant pitching once again ruled the night on Friday.

Two new pitchers will make their first appearance on the stars of the night list as well as an old friend who just appeared on Thursday's list. Here are the three stars of the night across the league.

Seth Lugo, SP, Kansas City Royals

Simply put, Lugo was nearly flawless in his start against the Houston Astros on Friday. He went eight innings allowing only three hits, one walk and striking out eight.

It was his longest outing of the year and the first time this season that he had not allowed multiple runs in a start.

The Royals won the game 2-0 and improved to 10-4 at their home ballpark. With continued success from Lugo, Kansas City could find its way to the postseason in back-to-back seasons.

Paul Skenes, SP, Pittsburgh Pirates

Considering the high-powered offense of the Los Angeles Dodgers that Skenes matched up against Friday, the young right-hander may have turned in the best outing of his professional career.

Skenes went 6 1/3 innings, allowed only five hits and struck out nine batters. Superstars Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts combined to go 0-for-6 with a strikeout from Ohtani.

After a Rookie of the Year Award in 2024, Skenes could be well on his way to a Cy Young in 2025 if he continues his dominance.

Jordan Beck, LF, Colorado Rockies

Beck has made an appearance on the list in back-to-back nights and for good reason.

After hitting three home runs in two games of a doubleheader on Thursday, the Rockies left fielder clubbed two more homers in Friday's 8-7 loss to the Cincinnati Reds.

All five of his home runs this year have come within the last two days, and the Rockies may have a young superstar on their hands if he continues to mash at the plate.
