Guardians Receive Good News About Six-Time All-Star

Jose Ramirez has become the best player in modern Cleveland Guardians history. In 12 full Major-League seasons, the Guardians infielder has made six All-Star games and finished in the top of American League Most Valuable Player voting five times.

Most recently, Ramirez finished in 2024 after slashing .279/.335/.537 with 118 RBI, marking his fourth season eclipsing the 100-RBI mark. He had been slotted to be a top-of-the-order staple again for the Guardians in 2025 but suffered a setback Saturday.

Ramirez sprained his wrist sliding into second base on an attempted steal Saturday against the Kansas City Royals. He stayed in the game until the sixth inning when his hand came off the bat awkwardly following a swing. Ramirez left in the sixth inning of a game the Guardians ultimately lost by a run, 4-3.

Manager Stephen Vogt opted to keep Ramirez out of the lineup in Sunday's finale, but reported good news about his superstar.

"He passed all the tests, imaging was negative," Vogt said before Sunday's game. “He’s just day to day, hopefully ready to go (Monday). He could be available off the bench today in a big spot."

Vogt said nothing was structurally wrong with Ramirez's wrist. It was just a matter of "getting the swelling and soreness out."

Ramirez had been 0 for 6 with a walk in a game-and-a-half this season. Gabriel Arias, who moved over to third base when Ramirez left, received the start in the finale against the Royals.

"We also want to be super cautious with this and make sure it doesn’t turn into something that’s going to linger," Vogt said.
