It's Tuesday in baseball, which means it's time to bet on home runs! FanDuel runs a weekly Dinger Tuesday promotion that is a great way to get involved in the action if you have an account.
If you place a $25 wager on a player to hit a home run, you will receive $5 back for every home run in that game, regardless if that player hits one or not. Last week, while none of our targets knocked one out of the park, we were able to circle a few games that saw a plethora of homers. Today, we have three such games on our radar. The games and whom we're betting to hit a HR:
The Philadelphia wind and heat have given us a +12% projected increase in HRs today, making Philly a logical place to begin our hunt for a dinger. For us, we prefer looking to a Philadelphia bat. Charlie Morton is on the mound for Atlanta and has allowed far more homers this season compared to Zack Wheeler.
Kyle Schwarber (+350)
Schwarber is our pick in this game. The Phillies outfielder has three home runs in his past five games and has far better splits against RHP this season. He's hit 15 of his 21 HRs this season off righties, and 55% of the HRs Morton has allowed this year have come off the bats of left-handed batters.
We're looking at two of the best offenses in baseball and a forecast that expects a huge boost in big hits. Homers, extra-base hits and runs are all expected to rise by a projected 13% or more. Our preference for a batter in this one comes on the Dodgers' end. Clayton Kershaw has had a solid season, so we'd rather bet against his opposing starter: Kyle Freeland.
Chris Taylor (+380)
Taylor has just six home runs this season, so his inclusion here is built on his history against Freeland. In 31 ABs, Taylor sports a .538 slugging percentage to go along with two HRs. Scanning the batter history against this game's starting pitchers, no one has had the success Taylor has had. We're loading him up as our choice in this one.
No game has a higher projected boost to HRs like this one. The forecast suggests a 19% increase in deep shots (all data courtesy of Ballpark Pal). Aiding our need to target this game is that each team's bullpen has struggled allowing homers this season. Both the White Sox and Angels rank inside the top 11 for most HRs allowed out of the bullpen. You can't go wrong betting on either end here, but we have a favorite.
Mike Trout (+210)
Trout is our choice thanks to his splits in tonight's pitching matchup. 18 of Trout's 22 homers this season have come off RHP, data we want to follow. Johnny Cueto hasn't let up a ton of homers this season, but when he does they're far more often coming off the bats of right-handed batters (80%). We'll back the Angels' top batter to hit one out of the park tonight. Trout has four HRs in his last nine games.
For now, all remains the same for the Brooklyn Nets - Rumors have been swirling for over a week that Kyrie Irving was soon to find himself another new team. That movement was then expected to cause a domino effect that would push Kevin Durant to find a new team. For now, that has settled down, as Irving opted into his $37 million player option with the Nets for next season. Looks like the Nets won't need to blow it all up after all. Brooklyn is currently +700 to win the championship next season.
John Wall reportedly headed to the Clippers - John Wall hasn't done much on an NBA court in some time, sitting out last year due to a disagreement with Houston. Wall agreed to a buyout with the Rockets yesterday, and Adrian Wojnarowski reports he's set to join the Clippers. Now, Woj is on a bit of a cold streak here, as those who bet the NBA Draft remember oh so well, but if Wall does join Los Angeles, it's an intriguing addition. The Clippers still have Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, both of whom should be healthy for the start of the new season. Los Angeles is the co-favorite to win the NBA Finals next year at +500.
Tour de France starts on Friday - Cycling's biggest event of the year is almost here, and yes, we can bet on it. Tadej Pogacar is the betting favorite at -140, for good reason. The 23-year-old is going for his third straight Tour de France win. If you're looking for someone at plus-odds, let us recommend Primoz Roglic. Roglic is +400 to grab the win and has already won two races this season. The second race he won, Critérium du Dauphiné, is widely considered to be a good predictor on Tour de France success.
