Ken Rosenthal Predicts Surprising 2025 World Series Winner
USA TODAY Sports

The 2025 MLB season is shaping up to be an exciting one, with many teams making league-changing moves around the league and an infusion of young talent like Bobby Witt Jr and Elly de la Cruz adding energy and drama to league play.

With less than a week to go before Opening Day, it’s now the season of predictions, with several respected MLB insiders sharing their thoughts on who will win the World Series.

33 of The Athletic’s MLB writers cast their predictions for who would win the World Series in 2025, and it’s not ideal for fans who enjoy the parity of baseball, which hasn’t seen a team repeat as world champions in over 20 years.

16 of the 33 writers picked the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the National League pennant, and 14 of those writers had the Dodgers winning it all.

The Dodgers, of course, are the ‘Goliath’ in the MLB this season, adding Roki Sasaki, Tanner Scott and Blake Snell during the offseason while also getting Shohei Ohtani back as a pitcher sometime during the year.

However, Ken Rosenthal, a respected insider and MLB on FOX correspondent, had a different take - one that may surprise fans.

Rosenthal predicted the Atlanta Braves to win it all this year, one of just three analysts to envision the Braves taking home their second trophy in five years.

Interestingly, Rosenthal was one of four national MLB writers to not have the Dodgers as repeat champions, with Tyler Kepner, Jayson Stark and Eno Sarris picking the Phillies, Diamondbacks and Red Sox respectively.

It’s an interesting take given the starpower in the National League this year, with Juan Soto’s Mets and the ever-mighty Phillies vying for the NL East crown, and the Dodgers lurking in the West.

The Braves look poised to at least make some noise this year, as they will get back Spencer Strider (missed 2024 with Tommy John surgery) and Ronald Acuna Jr (torn ACL) in 2025 along with the call-up of No. 1 prospect Drake Baldwin and the offseason signing of Jurickson Profar.

To get to the top, however, they need to get through a path that may include any of the Mets, Phillies, Dodgers, Diamondbacks and Cubs, each of which may give the Braves a hard battle.

Rosenthal’s prediction is bold, and only time will tell if it will pay off.
