Mets Receive Good News Before Phillies Game

Roughly one month into the MLB season, things are going well for the New York Mets. With a 15-7 record, they stand alone at the top of the NL East. Additionally, they have the third-best record in the entire MLB, only behind the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Mets are fresh off a four-game series sweep against the St. Louis Cardinals and will look to continue their hot streak in their series against the Philadelphia Phillies, which will begin on Monday.

Ahead of Monday's game against their division rivals, the Mets received good news that will be important to monitor.

Despite the Mets' recent success, they have not been at full health. Notably, infielder Mark Vientos left Saturday's game early due to a groin injury and did not suit up on Sunday. Fortunately for the Mets, Vientos is progressing well and could make his return sooner rather than later.

According to Mets beat writer Anthony DiComo, Vientos was practicing before Monday's game and could be available against the Phillies.

"Mark Vientos (groin) took ground balls earlier and is scheduled to take BP this afternoon," DiComo said on X. "He's potentially available off the bench tonight."

Despite a slow start to the season, Vientos appeared to be turning things around before his groin injury. In his last six full games, the Connecticut native batted .292 with two home runs and 5 RBI. He also had an OPS of .945 during that stretch.

Until there is more clarity, Viento's injury will be worth monitoring.
