MLB Tuesday: All roads lead to Dinger City

Tuesday in baseball is an exciting day for bettors, thanks to FanDuel's "Dinger Tuesday" promotion, and today looks like a phenomenal one for homers.

If you're unfamiliar, Dinger Tuesday allows you to bet $25 or more on a player to hit a home run, and regardless of whether he does or not, you'll receive $5 back in free bets for every HR hit in that game. Example: You bet $25 on Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to hit a homer today and he does not, but there are six bombs hit in the Blue Jays-White Sox game. Well, you'd get $5 per HR, giving you $30 back in free bets off your original wager.

With the rules of the promotion established, we'd like to use today to highlight our favorite spots for homers and our favorite players to hit one.

Toronto Blue Jays @ Chicago White Sox

According to Ballpark Pal, a resource that projects how the weather forecast will impact games, we're set for a huge spike in homers in this Toronto-Chicago game. The Chicago heat and wind are leading to +31% projected increase in HRs, and it's where our Dinger Tuesday hunt begins. Our focus is on the Toronto side. The Jays have hit the sixth-most HRs this year as a team, and White Sox pitcher Dylan Cease has let up far more bombs than Kevin Gausman.

Our pick: George Springer (+340)

Springer hit a homer off Cease when they last faced. Springer's hit 11 HRs off RHPs this season, and Cease has let up the bulk of his homers to right-handed batters.

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Cincinnati Reds

There is a +18% projected increase in HRs from Cincinnati today, and we like looking to the Dodgers' end for this promotion. Los Angeles has knocked 77 HRs this season, 11th most, and Tyler Mahle has had his struggles with deep shots on the mound for the Reds this year.

Our pick: Freddie Freeman (+430)

Freeman knocked a homer last game and has hit .346 against Mahle in 12 plate appearances since 2017, including one HR. 67% of Freeman's homers this year have come off of RHPs, and Mahle has let left-handed batters go deep more often than righties.

St. Louis Cardinals @ Milwaukee Brewers

We have a +19% increase in HRs today based on the Milwaukee weather. We're looking to the St. Louis offense to offer us the best chance here, as Chi Chi Gonzalez is getting a spot start for the Brewers. In just seven innings pitched this season, Gonzalez has surrendered two HRs.

Our pick: Paul Goldschmidt (+295)

Goldschmidt has four HRs in his last eight games and has hit a homer off Gonzalez in his 12 PA against him. 13 of his 16 HRs this year have come off of RHPs, and we like the NL MVP favorite to knock one deep in tonight's game.

In other news ...

The Lightning make it a series - Boy, did we read Game 3 wrong! Tampa Bay came out firing and took down Colorado with ease, winning 6-2. Steven Stamkos had a goal and an assist to go along with five shots, and Nikita Kucherov chipped in two assists on six shots. It was exactly the game the Lightning needed, and all of a sudden we have a series. Sportsbooks aren't fully convinced, as you can still bet Tampa Bay to win the Stanley Cup at +250. It's certainly where the value is, with Game 4 set for Wednesday night in Tampa.

Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets potentially headed for a split - The latest reports out of Brooklyn suggest that Kyrie Irving and the Nets have reached an "impasse" around his future. Irving will be exploring his options for this upcoming season, with potential landing spots that include the Lakers and Knicks. Could Irving reunite with LeBron? The odds for a Lakers title next season are currently +1600. A trio of LeBron-AD-Irving would be quite the force in the West.

Brooks Koepka leaves PGA Tour to join LIV Golf Series - The migration to the LIV Tour has continued, with Brooks Koepka the latest high-profile domino to fall. Koepka is expected to play in the LIV's next tournament on June 30, and it will be worth monitoring how this impacts the golf world as a whole. The PGA Tour has suspended players who have joined the LIV, and Koepka is sure to be next. We may be biased, but for the LIV Tour to succeed there is a need for a betting element. With nine days before the next event, we'll keep our eyes peeled for any potential open markets.
