Next three prospects who could impact MLB teams

Although the 2025 season is barely a month old, players such as Marlins catcher Agustin Ramirez, White Sox infielder Chase Meidroth and Red Sox infielder Kristian Campbell have impacted their teams. Let's take a look at three more prospects who could make an impact in the coming weeks.

Pitcher Michael McGreevy - St. Louis Cardinals

McGreevy made his major league debut for the Cardinals in 2024, making four appearances with three starts. He performed well in his trial with the Cardinals, posting a 1.96 ERA and a 0.783 WHiP over his 23.1 innings, striking out 18 batters with just two walks. While McGreevy had a strong showing in spring training, he was sent back to the minors at the beginning of the season.

The Cardinals' 10th-best prospect per MLB.com may not have to wait much longer to return. Pitcher Miles Mikolas has struggled again this season, posting a 7.64 ERA and a 1.535 WHiP in his 17.2 innings entering Wednesday. Pitchers Steven Matz, Erick Fedde and Mikolas are all free agents at the end of the season. It is time for the Cardinals to look to the future, and that begins with bringing McGreevy to the majors.

Second baseman Travis Bazzana - Cleveland Guardians

Zack Meisel of The Athletic put a damper on the Bazzana hype machine during an interview on 92.3 The Fan, saying that the Guardians would not rush their top prospect to the majors. However, Bazzana is off to a strong start at Double-A, posting a .276/.364/.448 batting line with a homer and three triples in 66 plate appearances entering Wednesday.

The Guardians' need in the infield has not gone away. While infielder Gabriel Arias has had an impressive start to the season, shortstop Brayan Rocchio has continued to struggle offensively. Arias has experience around the infield, with most of his major league appearances at short. Should Rocchio continue to struggle, and Bazzana impress, a move to the other side of second base could be in the cards for Arias. If so, Bazzana may soon follow.

Pitcher Robby Snelling - Miami Marlins

The Marlins are off to a surprisingly competitive start with a 10-12 record entering Wednesday. That success has been mainly due to an unexpectedly strong lineup — the Marlins rank 10th in the majors with a .722 OPS — and a solid bullpen. However, the starting pitching, which was expected to be a strength, has struggled to a 5.42 ERA thus far, ahead of only the Rockies and Orioles.

Snelling does not have much more to show in Double-A. The Marlins' 8th-best prospect per MLB.com has been dominant to start the season, posting a 2.20 ERA and a 0.980 WHiP over his 16.1 innings, striking out 20 batters with just two walks. Although Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported that the Marlins are in "no rush to decide" whether or not to trade Sandy Alcantara, the former Cy Young winner is expected to be sent packing this season. Such a trade would open a spot for Snelling, but he could force his way into the rotation with his performance, especially if the Marlins continue to exceed expectations.
