Philadelphia, there's a clear problem with Jordan Romano.
The Philadelphia Phillies signed the right-hander during the offseason, hoping that he'd figure it out after having a disappointing year before going down with an injury with the Toronto Blue Jays this season.
A two-time All-Star, it's shocking that Romano is pitching at this level.
For some reason, Rob Thomson continues to allow him to close games, and that was the case again on Wednesday against the New York Mets.
Romano allowed two earned runs in the bottom of the 10th to lose the game, raising his season ERA to 13.50.
Despite the concerning signs throughout the early parts of the campaign, the Canadian native isn't too concerned, saying that there's a lot of season left, and this is just a rough patch.
“A lot of season left,” Romano said, per MLB.com. “We expect to win. Just a little rough patch.”
Phillies fans don't want to hear there's a lot of season left, as this organization and the fan base expect to win games at the highest level.
That's all the Phillies have done over the past few seasons, and when it doesn't happen, players will hear about it. Whether that's fair to Romano and the rest of the guys on the roster, they have to start playing up to standards, and quickly.
Romano has been very good for a long time, so him pitching how he has does come as a surprise. However, things change quickly in Major League Baseball, and after dealing with an injury last year, perhaps this is the type of arm he is.
