Phillies Make Announcement Before Game Against Mets

The Philadelphia Phillies have gotten off to a rocky start, but fortunately, they haven't dealt with any significant health issues among their position players.

After a rough two-game stretch against the New York Mets, the Phillies are activating a right-handed infielder/outfielder for the final game of the series.

On Wednesday, the Phillies announced that they are reinstating infielder/outfielder Weston Wilson from his rehab assignment, as he returns from the 10-day injured list. To make room for Wilson, the Phillies are designating Kody Clemens for assignment.

The Phillies have needed a right-handed hitting outfielder for some time, and the front office hopes that Wilson can add some pop to the lineup. While he hasn't played a lot in his major league career, Wilson has shown flashes of being an above-average hitter.

In 2024, Wilson had 88 at-bats and hit for a .284 batting average with three home runs, 10 RBI, and a .836 OPS. Across the 104 at-bats in his career, Wilson is hitting .288 with four home runs, 12 RBI, and a .865 OPS.

Down in the Minor Leagues during his rehab stint, Wilson struggled. He had just six hits in 38 at-bats, good for a .158 batting average. He had one double and one triple, but no home runs. He also struck out 12 times compared to eight walks.

Wilson joins the Phillies as a bench bat, likely to get starts against left-handed pitchers in place of Max Kepler in left field. Wilson is replacing Clemens on the Phillies' major league roster.

Clemens wasn't given much of a chance on the Phillies in 2025, as he had just six at-bats. In those at-bats, Clemens didn't get a hit, and he only walked once. With Clemens out of options, he was designated for assignment, exposing him for other teams to grab.

Over the past two seasons with the Phillies, Clemens has been a solid left-handed bat off the bench. He hit .219 with five home runs and 18 RBI in 2024, while in 2023 he hit .230 with four home runs and 13 RBI.

The move comes before the final game of a rough Mets series in New York. Wilson will likely see a fair amount of playing time, more than Clemens, as he provides a solid platoon option for Kepler in left field.
