Phillies Superstar Unveils New Cleats Themed After Beloved Mascot
Mar 29, 2025; Washington, District of Columbia, USA; Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper (3) looks on during the sixth inning against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park Reggie Hildred-Imagn Images

The Philadelphia Phillies are one of the best teams in baseball, and they also have one of the best mascots in baseball, as well.

The beloved Phillie Phanatic has become synonymous with both the team and the city since its introduction way back in 1978. Players and fans alike have come to adore the mascot over the years, and that includes the team's current star player Bryce Harper.

Since signing with the Phillies in 2019, Harper has immersed himself in the rich history and tradition of the city he now calls home, so much so that it's hard to picture the Las Vegas native and former Washington Nationals slugger hailing from anywhere else.

His love and support for the City of Brotherly Love also extends to their beloved team mascot, and over the years he's dawned a wide range of Phanatic-themed gear which has included everything from compression sleeves and sliding mitts, to head bands and batting gloves.

Harper's most well known homage to the Phanatic has been the custom Under Armor cleats he has worn every season he's been with the team.

He's debuted a new design dedicated to the fuzzy green mascot every campaign, and he recently unveiled the pair he'd be using for the 2025 season.

Under Armour went all out when designing these, with everything from the Phanatic's green exterior, to the custom insoles being on brand from what Harper has done in previous seasons.

The cleats also feature several pendants that depict some well known tributes to the city itself, such as a boxing glove, four wheeler, the city skyline and the Liberty Bell.

This is just the latest example of why the Phillies' fanbase has become so enamored with Harper since his signing. Not only does he produce on the field, but he supports the city and fan base off the diamond, as well.

Mike Trout sends strong message after trade speculation

Two things are guaranteed when Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout is healthy: home runs and trade speculation. Trout took care of the former this week, mashing his first homer in nearly a year during Wednesday’s 12-5 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Outside of avoiding injury on the six-game road trip, the solo homer marked Trout’s only true highlight; the three-time AL MVP enters Friday’s home opener hitting .143 with five RBI and a .564 OPS. As for the trade speculation, what would be a baseball season without people wondering if the Angels will eventually deal Trout? On Tuesday, Trout sparked trade speculation after he praised playing in St. Louis. He even admitted he circled the game on his calendar. Trout referenced Cardinals legend and longtime Angels teammate Albert Pujols, who constantly raved about Busch Stadium and St. Louis as a whole. Although the baseball world seems highly interested in Trout’s future, the future Hall of Famer is focused on the here and now. “Great stretch on the road, see you in Anaheim,” Trout wrote on Instagram. The Angels won four of six against the Cardinals and the Chicago White Sox. Trout and teammates entered Friday only half a game behind the Texas Rangers for first place in the AL West. Yes, we’re only a week into the season. Yes, the Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners will likely turn things around before April ends. The Angels are also fresh off a club-record 99 losses, so you take the positives where you can get them. It’ll likely be some time before we see any potential Trout trade. Not only does he have six seasons remaining on a 12-year, $462.5 million extension he signed in 2019, but Trout’s contract contains a full no-trade clause. There haven’t been any credible reports about a Trout trade, even after injuries limited him to 111 games over the last two seasons. Whether or not the Angels would have dealt a healthy Trout is another conversation entirely. For now, though, Trout is healthy and ready to crush homers at Angel Stadium. Let’s see if the Angels maintain their 4-2 start and, against all odds, somehow get Trout his first playoff plate appearance in over a decade.

Cowboys surprise with workout of un-retired starter

FRISCO — The Dallas Cowboys offensive line has taken on an almost entirely new look in the span of the last year. Dallas added two pieces in the 2024 NFL Draft in Tyler Guyton and Cooper Beebe. Guyton, in particular, had big shoes to fill with Tyron Smith leaving the team in free agency. This offseason, the Cowboys lost another tenured piece on the line with Zack Martin announcing his retirement. So it may not be a rebuild for the Cowboys line, but there are certainly major changes coming. Given that five-year pro Terence Steele has the most experience at The Star, it certainly signals a new era. As this group moves forward, the Cowboys are exploring their options to either add another piece through free agency or the NFL Draft. This week, the Cowboys tested a candidate, bringing in Saahdiq Charles for a workout on Friday, according to NFL media's Mike Garafolo. Charles started his career with the Washington Commanders, rising to become a starter by his fourth season with the team. He was set to take on a similar role with the Tennessee Titans heading into 2024 but retired after a week of training camp. After deciding to come out of retirement, the Titans released him. With the iconic Martin now retired, Dallas is looking to fill the vacancy at right guard. The Cowboys re-signed Brock Hoffman and struck a deal with free agent Robert Jones, presumably creating some competition while adding to their depth. An addition of the 6-foot-4, 320-pound Charles — a former fourth-round pick out of LSU who is still just 25 — would figure to accomplish the same goal. Regardless, the Cowboys will want a better performance out of their line next season, hoping to develop a more stout running game while protecting Dak Prescott. If all goes according to head coach Brian Schottenheimer's plan, Cowboys fans should count on those improvements.

Paul Finebaum Names the Top Returning College Football QB

The 2024 college football season showcased remarkable performances from several quarterbacks, including Shedeur Sanders of the Colorado Buffaloes, Cam Ward of the Miami Hurricanes, and Jaxson Dart of the Ole Miss Rebels, to name a few. However, all those standout quarterbacks have now moved on to the NFL. This raises the question: who is the best-returning quarterback heading into the 2025 season? On "The Paul Finebaum Show," SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum addressed the question of who will be the best-returning quarterback in college football for 2025. There are several candidates, including Miami's Carson Beck, Tennessee Volunteers' Nico Iamaleava, Oklahoma Sooners' John Mateer and Texas Longhorns' Arch Manning. Ultimately, he concluded that the top returning quarterback is someone from the ACC. "I think it's possible Cade Klubnik is the best quarterback coming back in the country," Finebaum said. "I know everyone has their personal favorites, but the people I believe in and trust, he's in the top two or three. He gets a chance to prove it against LSU." Klubnik had an impressive season in 2024, leading the Clemson Tigers back to the College Football Playoff for the first time since 2020. He threw for 3,639 yards, achieving 36 touchdowns while limiting himself to just six interceptions. Additionally, he contributed to the team with 463 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns. Athlon Sports' Steven Lassan has a slightly different viewpoint than Paul Finebaum, ranking quarterback Arch Manning as the top returning quarterback for 2025. However, Lassan places Klubnik at No. 2 in his rankings. He noted the significant improvement Klubnik made in 2024 compared to 2023, where he threw for only 2,844 yards, with 19 touchdowns and nine interceptions. As a former five-star recruit, Klubnik aims to build on his successful season in 2025 and lead Clemson deeper into the College Football Playoff.

Boston Bruins made a big mistake by signing Nikita Zadorov and Elias Lindholm

With the 2024-25 regular season coming to a conclusion, the Boston Bruins are set to miss the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 season. The team elected to sell at the trade deadline, trading away names such as Brandon Carlo, Charlie Coyle, Justin Brazeau and even their captain, Brad Marchand. The team is looking to reset in the offseason, but that wasn’t the plan or expectation for this season. The Bruins had an active free agency last summer, as their biggest moves involved two ex-Canucks in Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov. Both players inked relatively big contracts with the team, and both seemed like a fit at the time. However, as this season comes to an end, it’s safe to say at this point, the Bruins are likely going to regret signing both of these contracts. These contracts are looking like massive misses When the Bruins announced that they were signing both Lindholm and Zadorov, people had positive reactions based on the fit alone. However, those feelings quickly went away the moment their contract values were announced… Lindholm was inked long-term, signing a seven-year deal with an AAV of $7.75M. Zadorov was also given some term, as he signed a six-year deal with an AAV of $5M. Instant reaction was that the Bruins overpaid for both players, and that’s been the case. The Bruins as a whole have struggled this season, but the spotlight has been on Lindholm and Zadorov. Lindholm has recorded just 13 goals and 38 points in 75 games this season. Meanwhile, Zadorov has four goals and 17 points in 74 games while recording a career-high 137 penalty minutes. Both players aren’t even close to living up to their contracts, and given where the Bruins are headed, it could get quite ugly over the next few seasons. Both players benefited from great playoff runs Lindholm and Zadorov were both part of a promising Vancouver Canucks team that was a game away from advancing to the Western Conference Finals. Both were acquired by the Canucks from the Calgary Flames and had their ups and downs. Zadorov seemed to be an instant fit and played some of his best hockey in Vancouver, especially during the postseason, where he racked up eight points in 13 playoff games. Lindholm took more time to adjust but was also a great asset during the postseason, scoring 10 points in 13 playoff games. The Canucks opted to let both players walk, and Boston snatched them up. These players benefited from strong playoff runs, which enabled them to cash in during free agency. There’s also the fact that Lindholm plays a coveted position — center — and was connected to the Bruins for quite some time. He was a 40-goal scorer at one point while being Calgary’s No. 1 center, and Zadorov was seen as an addition to toughen up Boston’s blueline. The Bruins thought that by giving both these players a bigger role, their numbers would flourish just like in previous seasons, but so far, they’ve missed the mark fully. What do the Bruins do now? By the looks of it, both of these contracts are projected to age terribly for Boston. The good news is that with the cap rising, the effect these contracts pose will be lessened, but they’ll still likely be liabilities moving forward. It’s clear that the Bruins are headed toward some sort of retooling, but Lindholm and Zadorov signed in Boston with the idea that they’d be playing playoff hockey right away. Unfortunately, in the event that one or both of these players end up wanting out, trade interest would likely be very low. If you’re the Bruins, a couple of years of drafting high picks and developing your prospect pool is the easy way to go. The team had a productive deadline by selling, but the Bruins may not give up so easily. Regardless of what path they choose, their big-name free agents have to play better. Whether it’s a first-year slump or a foreshadowing of what’s to come, the Bruins could look back at their 2024 free-agency spree, only to regret their actions deeply.
