Report: Mets in trade discussions with Pirates for 1B/DH Daniel Vogelbach

The New York Mets head into the second half of the 2022 season with a slim 2.5-game lead over the Atlanta Braves for the top spot in the NL East, sporting a 58-35 record.

Looking to add some distance between themselves and the rest of the NL East, the Mets are reportedly looking to add a bat ahead of the August 2 trade deadline to bolster their lineup for the stretch run.

According to Mike Mayer, the executive editor at Metsmerized, the Mets have had discussions with the Pittsburgh Pirates about acquiring 1B/DH Daniel Vogelbach.

Vogelbach is hitting .228/.348/.430 with 12 home runs, 34 RBIs, and 117 OPS+ this year.

The Pirates, mostly out of the playoff hunt, will likely be sellers ahead of the deadline. They sit 11 games back of the first-place Milwaukee Brewers (50-43) with a 39-54 record and 10.5 games back of an NL wildcard spot.

Vogelbach is batting .228/.338/.430 with 12 home runs and 34 RBI in 75 games for the Pirates this season.

Originally a second-round draft pick by the Chicago Cubs in 2011, Vogelbach has played seven MLB seasons for the Seattle Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays, Brewers and Pirates.

In over 412 career games, Vogelbach is batting .213/.336/.408 with 61 home runs and 165 RBI for his career.

Vogelbach's best season came in 2019, where he slashed .208/.341/.439 with 30 home runs and 76 RBI with the Mariners, receiving an all-star nod.
