Three stars of the night in MLB

Tuesday night in MLB has finished, and runs were certainly hard to come by for almost every team.

Only two teams eclipsed double-digit runs, while 10 teams failed to hit more than three runs — including the Detroit Tigers and Baltimore Orioles, who were shut out.

With a night full of action, here are three stars from Tuesday.

Mitchell Parker, SP, Washington Nationals

Parker turned in the best outing of his professional career on Tuesday night. He went eight shutout innings while allowing just one hit, walking two and striking out four batters.

It is the first time in his young career that he pitched into the eighth inning, and his season ERA was lowered to 1.39 across five starts.

Nick Pivetta, SP, San Diego Padres

Pivetta was on the winning side of the other shutout in the major leagues on Tuesday, and he was stellar.

Pivetta went seven scoreless innings, allowing just two hits, walking two and striking out six. His season ERA went down to 1.20 after five starts so far in 2025.

With former Cy Young winner Yu Darvish returning from injury at some point later in the season and Pivetta continuing to impress, San Diego's rotation could be one of the best in baseball when the postseason rolls around.

Ian Happ, OF, Chicago Cubs

Happ was the hero for the Cubs in their 11-10 comeback win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Chicago trailed 10-7 heading to the bottom of the eighth inning before a two-run home run by Kyle Tucker made it 10-9 and then Miguel Amaya tied the game at 10 with two outs in the ninth inning.

Happ delivered a walk-off single on the first pitch of the bottom half of the 10th inning and gave the Cubs the 11-10 victory.

Andrew Wright

Andrew "Dew" Wright graduated from Charleston Southern University with a degree in Communication Studies. He is a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Washington Commanders fan.
