Video Reveals New Additions to Phillies' Citizens Bank Park

In less than two weeks, the Philadelphia Phillies will return home to Citizens Bank Park. The 21-year-old park has undergone some major renovations in recent years, with the 3rd-largest primary MLB scoreboard being installed for 2023, and a new auxiliary scoreboard being added to the right field wall before last season.

When the Phils take the field for their home opener against the Colorado Rockies, it looks like fans will be greeted with even more additions - though these are a bit more subtle.

Twitter/X user @DudeSweetDave posted this short video, showing that parts of the ballpark, including the Phillies dugout and the home plate backstop, are being renovated:

The Phillies did not formally announce these upgrades in the same way as the previous two years.

The work being done behind home plate continues the digitalization of CBP, which has been met with mixed reception by fans. Though there were minimal complaints about the new 152-by-86 feet video board in left field, many did not like the team removing the out-of-town scoreboard in right, which incorporated some manual elements similar to those found at Fenway Park and Wrigley Field.

The park has featured a brick facade extending dugout to dugout since it opened in 2004. While it did contain some ad space, positioned closer to first base for the TV broadcast view, there now appears to be a video board extending over the entire middle third.

Many fans will get to see the changes in person this season, as Phillies' attendance should again be near the top of MLB. The club averaged 41,527 fans per game last year - second-most overall behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and their highest mark since 2012.
