Watch: Aroldis Chapman throws fastest pitch of MLB season

Aroldis Chapman has been pitching in the majors for 15 seasons, but the veteran left-hander has shown once again that his fastball is still as live as ever.

Chapman threw two pitches that were clocked at 104 mph during the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 10-6 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers at PNC Park on Wednesday night. Dodgers outfielder Teoscar Hernandez fouled off one of the pitches and took the other for a ball.

Hernandez eventually struck out swinging.

Chapman also struck out Shohei Ohtani on a 103-mph fastball earlier in the inning.

Chapman’s two pitches to Hernandez, which clocked in at 103.8 mph and 104 mph, were the two fastest pitches thrown this season. Oakland A’s reliever Mason Miller had the previous high mark this year with a 103.7-mph fastball he threw on on April 11.

It was probably only a matter of time before Chapman reclaimed the top spot, as the 36-year-old has thrown 67 pitches of at least 104 mph during his MLB career.

Chapman had an embarrassing moment during Pittsburgh’s 1-0 win over the Dodgers on Tuesday night, so perhaps he had a little extra juice from that the following day.
