Only 18 players in major league history had ever hit four home runs in a single game entering Saturday. Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez added his name to that list.
The Diamondbacks slugger victimized Braves pitcher Grant Holmes in the second, fourth and sixth innings, his sixth inning blast traveling 443 feet to center. While Suarez's third homer provided a 6-2 lead for the Diamondbacks, the Braves rallied against Arizona's bullpen to take a 7-6 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.
Enter Suarez. He stepped to the plate for the fourth time to lead off the inning and delivered, depositing Braves' closer Raisel Iglesias' 3-2 fastball into the seats in left for his fourth homer of the game.

Suarez became the first player since former outfielder JD Martinez to hit four home runs in a game. Martinez, who performed the feat on Sept. 9, 2017, was also a member of the Diamondbacks at the time.
Martinez and Suarez have also put the Diamondbacks in interesting company. Although the team began play in 1998, they are the fourth franchise to have at least two players hit four homers in a game, joining the Braves (Bob Horner - 1986, Joe Adcock - 1954 and Bobby Lowe -1894), Phillies (Mike Schmidt - 1976, Chuck Klein - 1936 and Ed Delahanty - 1896) and Dodgers (Gil Hodges - 1950 and Shawn Green - 2002). This is also the third time the Braves franchise has allowed a four-home run game, having been victimized by Hodges and Willie Mays (1961).
Suarez's heroics were not enough as the Diamondbacks lost 8-7. That marked the second time a four-home run game occurred in a loss as Horner's Braves lost 11-8 to the Expos.
