The Minnesota Twins nearly blew it in their home game against the New York Mets on Wednesday until first baseman Ty France played hero.
Entering the top of the eighth inning, the Twins led the Mets 3-0. Then, Minnesota relief pitcher Griffin Jax folded. Mets first baseman Pete Alonso and left fielder Jesse Winker hit consecutive RBI doubles, while New York shortstop Luisangel Acuna tied the game with an RBI single.

France thwarted New York's comeback attempt in the bottom of the 10th inning. He singled to center field off an 86 mph sweeper from pitcher Reed Garrett, sending center fielder Byron Buxton home and securing a 4-3 win for the Twins.

The win gave Minnesota (7-12) its first home series win of the year. New York, meanwhile, is now 11-7 and has lost three of its last five games.
France — who signed a one-year deal with Minnesota in free agency — has looked like a steal for the Twins thus far. Through his first 19 games, the one-time All-Star has slashed .265/.324/.397 and hit 10 RBI.
On Monday, the 30-year-old was named American League Player of the Week. France's resurgence should be considered a positive for the struggling Twins.
