White Sox designate SP Dallas Keuchel for assignment

On Saturday, the Chicago White Sox announced they had designated starting pitcher Dallas Keuchel for assignment.

The White Sox have seven days to trade Keuchel or place him on waivers.

Keuchel has started eight games for the White Sox, going 2-5 with a 7.88 ERA.

Keuchel made his most recent start on Thursday, allowing six earned runs over two innings in a 5-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox.

According to White Sox general manager Rick Hahn, the team wanted to give Keuchel a chance to get "back on track" but eventually decided to make a move.

"Obviously, the trend from the last couple (of starts), especially (Thursday) night, was enough for us to say it was time to try something else in that spot," Hahn said.

The 34-year-old is in the final year of a three-year, $55 million contract signed with the White Sox in 2020.

Keuchel went 17-16 with a 4.79 ERA in three seasons with the White Sox.

A seventh-round pick by the Houston Astros in 2009, Keuchel won a Cy Young, four Gold Gloves and a World Series Championship in seven seasons with the team.

Keuchel moved on to the Atlanta Braves in 2019 before signing with the White Sox ahead of the 2020 season.

In 11 MLB seasons, Keuchel has compiled a 101-87 record, with a career ERA of 3.86.
