White Sox Baseball: Rinse, Repeat, Regret

Another game, another blowout. The Chicago White Sox dropped their fifth straight on Friday night, getting steamrolled 10-3 by the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

This one followed an eight-run shutout loss on Wednesday, and the Boston Red Sox wasted no time continuing the beatdown, putting up three runs in the first inning off White Sox starter Martín Pérez.

Trevor Story homered in the first and went deep again in the seventh off Tyler Gilbert—both three-run blasts. Ceddanne Rafaela added a two-run shot in the fourth off Penn Murfee, and in the eighth, Carlos Narváez welcomed reliever Bryse Wilson to the game with a solo shot over the Green Monster to put a bow on Boston’s 10-run evening.

Tough Task, Worse Result for Pérez

Martín Pérez had the misfortune of facing the same lineup he saw just six days ago. However, the veteran didn't have his best stuff, and forearm tightness likely played a significant role in his night. The left-hander exited after just three innings and 53 pitches, allowing four earned runs on five hits and two walks.

Jordan Leasure was the lone bright spot on the mound, recording two strikeouts in two-thirds of an inning. He was also the only White Sox pitcher who didn’t allow a run—so that’s… something.

Offense Still Searching

Hunter Dobbins handled the White Sox with ease, giving up just one earned run on three hits over six innings while walking none.

Andrew Benintendi provided the lone spark against his former team, curling a solo homer around Pesky’s Pole in right field. Joshua Palacios drove in a run on a groundout, and Brooks Baldwin chipped in an RBI single in the ninth, well after the game had already been decided.

News and Notes

  • The White Sox have now been outscored 34-7 over their last four games.
  • The South Siders went 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position and are now 2-for-their-last-25 in those spots.
  • Edgar Quero, pinch-hit for Matt Thaiss in the seventh and lined out. He doubled for his first career hit in the ninth.
  • Chicago outrighted right-hander Mike Clevinger to Triple-A Charlotte after he cleared waivers.
