The Chicago Cubs took the first two games of their series with the Arizona Diamondbacks at Wrigley Field, including what could be the game of the year on Friday. With an opportunity for the sweep on Sunday, the Diamondbacks, and Mother Nature, weren't going to make it easy.

For starters, Sunday's game started nearly two hours late. Play originally began around 2 p.m. CT for the 1:20 p.m. CT scheduled start, but only lasted four outs before the tarps were called for again. Finally, action resumed around 3 p.m. CT.

When the game paused, the Cubs had two on with one out. In the ensuing at-bat, Michael Busch delivered a RBI single to give the home side an early lead.

Unfortunately, the Cubs couldn't plate another run in the first inning, which would bite them later in the game. The Diamondbacks tied the game in the top of the fourth. Pavin Smith was on second following a ground-rule double, and Josh Naylor brought him in with a RBI single.

From there, both sides dialed in. There were chances, including a few for the Cubs late, but runs were scarce. Jameson Taillon pitched 5.0 innings, allowing three hits, one run, and two walks while fanning six batters. From there, Julian Merryweather, Ethan Roberts, Porter Hodge, and Ryan Pressly pitched nearly flawless baseball to get the game to extras.

Jordan Wicks took the ball for the Cubs, quickly allowing a run in the top of the 10th. However, Wicks worked his way out of the jam, with some great defense from Nico Hoerner helping along the way.

In the bottom of the 10th, Nico Hoerner came through once again. A base hit scored the ghost runner, Dansby Swanson, to tie the game. However, the Cubs couldn't end the game, forcing the team's to play another inning.

Arizona scored yet again, but the game was 3-2. Despite remaining within striking distance, an Ian Happ line out led to a double play in the bottom of the 11th. A Kyle Tucker fly out ended the game and led to a 3-2 Cubs loss
