The New York Yankees are 11-7 and sitting atop the AL East after finishing off a three-game sweep of the Royals on Wednesday evening.
Clarke Schmidt had a successful 2025 debut after spending the first three weeks of the season on the IL. Aaron Judge had another big night while breaking a personal 10-game homerless streak.
Another Yankees star, one who has been struggling with the bat, was able to put his stamp on the 4-3 victory too.
It looked as if Cody Bellinger was going to settle right into the Yankees' lineup out of the gate when he went 3-for-5 with four RBI and his first homer in pinstripes during the second game of the season back on March 29. Since then, it has been a bit of a battle at the plate for the former NL MVP.
Going into play Wednesday night, Bellinger had gone an ugly 5-for-40 with 16 strikeouts and just one extra-base hit over the first 15 days of April. However, he found a way to pick himself up and play a pivotal role in the series finale against KC.
Even though he did go down on strikes once in his four at-bats, Bellinger also squared up a couple of hard-hit balls, coming up with an RBI double on one of them. His prime highlight of the game, though, was a diving grab to seal the win in the top of the ninth.

Bellinger is a Gold Glove winner, and he showed exactly why with that game-saving grab.
Judge, who went 3-for-3 on the night to raise his batting average to a ridiculous .409, said of his new teammate, "Wow. That’s the reason he’s got gold on his glove. Very few people make that catch."
