Former UFC champion Conor McGregor has made news recently with his political aspirations.
It is being reported by Bloodyelbow.com, that McGregor is eyeing retirement.
He’s also making waves this week by hinting at a possible retirement from the sport.
McGregor has admitted that ‘he’s happy with what he has done’.
The two-weight UFC champion has not competed since breaking his leg that cost him in his trilogy against Dustin Poirier in summer of 2021. He was due to take on Michael Chandler last summer but pulled out due to a broken toe.
After a visit to the White House to meet with President Trump, McGregor announced his bid for the Irish presidency.
For the first time, McGregor is seriously addressing retirement from combat sports despite many false alarms over the years.
He recently spoke at the BKFC media event. McGregor noted that he is satisfied with his current fighting legacy and mentioned that ‘something else’ has drawn him in lately.
McGregor said, “I’ve got two fights on the contract, I’m in negotiations,” he told the press when asked about a potential move to the squared circle. “Last week something happened to me, I went to the White House and my heart bleeds for my country right now. So, there’s a lot of stuff going on back home, I’m happy with what I’ve done. There’s something else for me that’s in my gut right now and that’s kind of where I’m going.”
The former lightweight and featherweight champion will turn 37 this July, and in the unlikely case that he ran for and won the Irish Presidency, would enter into a seven-year term. While he insists, he wants to fight while in office, that’s highly unlikely and would rule him out for what would be an 11-year absence.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out for McGregor and if this is the end of "The Notorious."
