According to boxingnews.com, Chael Sonnen has confirmed that ‘the fight of the century’ has been verbally agreed upon by both sides.

This matchup has been touted as the biggest fight in UFC history, as fans have been eagerly awaiting the match.

Jon ‘Bones’ Jones is the UFC Heavyweight champion after having submitted Cyril Gane at UFC 285 in 2023 and then defeating Stipe Miocic in UFC 309 in November 2024. After the fight, he announced his retirement.

Many hold Jones in high regard as the greatest MMA fighter in history, including UFC President Dana White.

When it comes to Jones’ dominance, UFC Interim Heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall is seen as the biggest threat. Jones has recently said that he feels that Aspinall doesn’t threaten his legacy, he’d honestly rather face Alex Pereira instead.

With Pereira’s recent defeat against Magomed Ankalaev, that bout is no longer an option for Jones.

‘Bones’ is now faced with a tough decision. Does he go for the title defense against Aspinall, vacate his title, or officially announce his retirement.

Chael Sonnen has now said that a deal has been reached but fans are waiting on the official announcement.

Sonnen said, “I am confident enough to tell you that fight is done. That fight is agreed, all the way down to the date. That I do have the confidence to tell you. International Fight Week would make perfect sense, I, personally just in my heart, I always thought they were going to go back to New York. I’m telling you, this Jon Jones business, Jones will say a lot of things to the media. When he gets that phone call, ‘Here’s the guy you’re fighting.”

“Do you understand? Yes,’ and that is what he will say. “All of the other reports are not true. Jon has come out, he’s going to troll, he’s had some fun, he’s even tried to negotiate the media. Privately, he takes that phone call, it’s ‘Yes,’ or anything else that comes out of his mouth. Any answer that’s not yes is not yes, but that did not happen. That is a false report. Jon Jones has not ducked this fight. I wish he did. I’d love to bury him. he didn’t. He did not duck Tom Aspinall,” Sonnen said.
