The fight between UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion and UFC Heavyweight campion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones may be on the table, but one UFC insider might have an inside track on the progression of negotiations.
Aspinall has been the UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion for 500 days. That makes almost two years deliberation from Team Jones on when to fight their deserving challenger.
Fans were not happy to learn that Jones wanted at least six months to prepare for the fight. That scenario would push him to an unjust UFC heavyweight record.
According to Chael Sonnen, Sonnen gave his conclusive answer to whether the Jones-Aspinall fight will happen.
Sonnen said, “Yes, [Jones-Aspinall will be announced soon,]” Sonnen remarked. “Jones and Aspinall is done, it’s actually contrary to the media — the athletes have agreed — the company doesn’t have a date yet.”
“Jon Jones never backed down from that fight, that is not accurate. That was misreported,” Sonnen said.
Multiple times UFC President Dana White has confirmed that the fight will happen this year and “hopefully very soon,” in his latest social media post.
Many fans are anticipating this monumental matchup between the two fighters.
