UFC middleweight who Dricus du Plessis kept mocking for losing gets his brutal payback after UFC 319

One middleweight contender believes turnabout is fair play after what UFC 319 loser Dricus du Plessis said to him in the past.

Saturday’s pay-per-view in Chicago did not go to plan for Du Plessis, who envisioned becoming the first man to defeat Khamzat Chimaev to further build his legacy and strengthen an ambitious push for GOAT status at 185 pounds.

Instead, Du Plessis was dominated by Chimaev in the main event of UFC 319, which saw the South African barely able to mount any offense across a five-round contest in which he was controlled for over 21 minutes.

‘Stillknocks’ enjoyed strong success before running into ‘Borz’, going unbeaten across a nine-fight run that included a title crowning and two successful defenses. But those achievements haven’t stopped one of Du Plessis’ longtime rivals from mocking him.

Brendan Allen rubs salt in the wounds after Dricus du Plessis’ first UFC defeat

Du Plessis never shied away from trash talk and trolling while he occupied the middleweight throne, and much of it was directed at Brendan Allen.

While the pair have never fought and have often been far apart in the division’s pecking order, a brief meeting when the South African trained at Kill Cliff FC ensured they would never see eye to eye.

Du Plessis was said to have made a joke about Allen’s tattoo by asking if the religious “1:2-7” ink was his MMA record. Both sides have been critical of the other ever since, and Du Plessis’ success combined with Allen’s consecutive losses to Nassourdine Imavov and Anthony Hernandez gave the then-champ the upper hand.

But he got a lesson in payback following UFC 319, with Allen making the most of his chance in a comment on social media.

“#dominated Easy to talk when someone loses,” Allen wrote. “But man, to go and get completely dominated after talking, now that’s funny.

“Finally fought someone young and hungry and look what happened lol,” Allen added.

Dricus du Plessis ‘sacrificed’ luck to Brendan Allen that he could have used at UFC 319

Du Plessis reignited his Allen rivalry just a few weeks before UFC 319, ahead of the American’s return at the pay-per-view event in New Orleans.

The South African once again mocked ‘All In’ for his losing run, joking that he would ‘sacrifice’ his luck to help Allen against Marvin Vettori at UFC 318 because he ‘needed it more’.

Allen went on to defeat Vettori via unanimous decision to bounce back from consecutive defeats and record his first win since April 2024.

Du Plessis, on the other hand, was scrambling for any luck he could find after being unable to mount any resistance as Chimaev ended his title reign in lopsided fashion.
