Alexa Grasso was completely underestimated when she met Valentina Shevchenko for the first time as they fought at the UFC 285, and she not only submitted Shevchenko but also captured the women’s flyweight title, thus putting an end to the longest record in UFC history.

Six months later, they had a rematch at the first Noche UFC when Grasso retained her title in a very close and controversial split draw in the judges’ eyes. Now, after a year of not having a rematch, they both trained hard for this day to prove themselves and decide who would be the winner.

Impressive Start of the Round

Both of the fighters fought well at the start of the match. Alexa Grasso threw two punches, and after that, she tried to cover herself from Shevchenko’s punches, but Shevchenko was fast as she caught her with a right hook in return, and that was when both champions exchanged massive blows of punches.

Grasso pulled a great move using her jab, and she continued to use the jab to measure range. Valentina Shevchenko counterpunched with a good jab back, and as expected, she looked good. Shevchenko manages to time a takedown perfectly and gets it without any issues, like the prior two bouts. Now, they are standing on the floor in the middle of the octagon.

Impressive Grappling skills on the Ground

After grappling and striking, Shevchenko throws a knee while they are still clinched. Grasso tries to counter it with a left hand. Shevchenko then delivers a heavy right and then another successful takedown. There they are on the ground guard. Shevchenko gets into a half guard before getting to a mount, although Grasso counters and brings it to the full guard.

They return to half-guard in the last minute, and Shevchenko secures Grasso’s back again before the first round concludes, showing good boxing skills. Shevchenko takes down Grasso, but she escapes Shevchenko’s deep double-leg takedown attempt and goes to the ground. Shevchenko grabs Grasso’s head, quickly moves her, and pushes Grasso against the cage. Grasso then catches her opponent with a few body shots before getting taken down, and they are back in a full guard position again.

Final Moments

Grasso steps aside from her, unlike Valentina Shevchenko, who throws her to the side after getting into the clinch. She takes the split decision again, and as both fighters move into the middle of the ring, Shevchenko throws a straight right. However, Grasso tries to counter and retake the fight to the ground, but she is cut off and ends up on the back.

Shevchenko then pulled back, ended the match as she had in the previous rounds, and became the champion in UFC 306. She answered all the questions that were raised against her and proved herself that the bullet had improved herself from the previous encounter with Alexa Grasso.
