Agent offers update on status of Ben Simmons

While there are fairly constant rumors flying around relating to the health and potential timeline for return for Brooklyn Nets guard/forward Ben Simmons, the latest on his current outlook is one that's likely worth taking to heart. While speaking to SiriusXM NBA Radio's Justin Termine and Eddie Johnson, Simmons' agent, Bernie Lee, had some legitimately positive updates on the 27-year-old.

When asked about his health and whether Simmons would be ready for the start of training camp, Lee revealed that his client has exceeded all benchmarks this summer, and the expectation is that he'll be ready to start the season on day one of training camp.

"He's been great, there's been a protocol that was established for him this summer that has benchmarks and measurements just to make sure everything was staying on track, and I'll tell you that he's exceeded everything. The expectation is that he'll be able to start the season day one of training camp and definitely the regular season without any limitations in any way," Lee told SiriusXM NBA Radio.

This is a big update for Nets fans and Simmons alike, obviously. If he's ready to go for training camp, that would only add to the growing buzz surrounding some lingering optimism that he can begin moving toward playing like his old self. While it's still a good bit away, even if Simmons is able to take part in practices prior to the season and is ready on opening night, there'll certainly be plenty of eyes on Brooklyn to see how he looks after playing in just 42 games last season.

Watch: Five players, two coaches ejected after Pistons-Timberwolves brawl

On Sunday, a brawl broke out early in the second quarter of the Minnesota Timberwolves' 123-104 home win over the Detroit Pistons. With the Pistons leading 39-29 and 8:36 remaining in the second quarter, Timberwolves center Naz Reid drove to the basket and Pistons rookie forward Ron Holland II fouled him. Reid and Holland exchanged words after the play. Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo then grabbed Holland's jersey, and soon all 10 players on the court and multiple coaches and trainers were involved in a melee along the baseline. The fight would spill into the stands. As officials stopped it, Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff and Timberwolves assistant coach Pablo Prigioni screamed at each other before team personnel separated them. Reid, DiVincenzo, Holland, Pistons center Isaiah Stewart, Pistons guard Marcus Sasser, Bickerstaff and Prigioni were ejected. Pistons assistant coach Luke Walton assumed head-coaching duties for Bickerstaff. Patrick Donnelly of the Associated Press wrote the fight "played out just 20 feet in front of new Timberwolves owner Alex Rodriguez." Bleacher Report shared a video of Rodriguez giving a young fan a jersey after he was caught in the middle of the scuffle. The NBA has yet to announce fines or punishments for players and coaches involved in the skirmish.

Pittsburgh Steelers’ Mike Tomlin Reveals News About Aaron Rodgers

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin addressed reporters from the league meetings in Palm Beach on Sunday, offering insights into the team’s ongoing quarterback search—most notably their discussions with four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers. The conversation dominated headlines as Tomlin confirmed that Rodgers visited the Steelers’ facility in Pittsburgh earlier this month to explore the possibility of joining the team. Tomlin described the meeting positively, calling it a “really good day,” though he kept details sparse beyond that. “It was really good to spend some time together man and get to know each other more intimately, but it is free agency,” Tomlin said, via Brooke Pryor of ESPN.com. “It is a process. I have nothing of any more significance to add other than that.” His comments suggest an openness to Rodgers but leave the door ajar for other possibilities as the Steelers navigate the unpredictable waters of free agency. The Steelers’ quarterback situation remains fluid, with no firm deadline set for a decision on Rodgers or any other signal-caller. Tomlin emphasized that the team is taking a deliberate approach, evaluating options in both free agency and the upcoming draft. Among the prospects on their radar is Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, with whom the Steelers are reportedly scheduled to meet. This multi-pronged strategy reflects the team’s determination to find the right fit under center after a tumultuous offseason at the position. Since the 2024 season concluded, the Steelers have seen significant turnover at quarterback. Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson have joined the roster, while Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and Kyle Allen have departed for new teams. Wilson’s signing with the New York Giants notably eliminated one potential destination for Rodgers, narrowing the field of suitors for the veteran star. With the Giants off the table, and unless the Minnesota Vikings reverse their current trajectory, Pittsburgh stands out as perhaps Rodgers’s best opportunity to secure a starting role in 2025. For now, patience appears to be the prevailing sentiment. Tomlin’s measured tone and the absence of a hard timeline indicate the Steelers are content to let the process play out. Aaron Rodgers, too, seems willing to bide his time as he weighs his next move following a storied career that includes multiple MVP awards and a Super Bowl title. Whether Pittsburgh ultimately becomes his new home remains uncertain, but the mutual interest—and that “really good day” at the facility—keeps the possibility very much alive.

'I don’t think you can be out for three months and come back as if nothing': Andy Roddick weighs in on Jannik Sinner’s comeback

Andy Roddick is already looking ahead to Jannik Sinner’s return as the clay swing begins. The Italian’s three-month suspension started in early February, and he is set to make his comeback at the Rome Open, starting on May 7. The world No. 1 will return to competition while still holding the top ranking despite his months off and having played only one tournament this season—his Australian Open title run in January. Sinner initially avoided suspension after the ITIA found "no fault or negligence" in his doping case from March 2024. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed, seeking a ban of one to two years, but eventually reached a settlement with Sinner, reducing it to just three months to close the case. Former world No. 1 Andy Roddick previewed Sinner’s return in a column for Blog Betway, stating that the Rome Open—where Sinner will play at home—is the perfect setting to move past the controversy. “Sinner will return at the Italian Open, and his home crowd in Rome is going to go nuts. With the amount of support and fame that he has in Italy, I’m not sure there could have been a better place for him to come back” “He’s played well in Turin and won the ATP Finals there, but he didn’t play Rome last year so they haven’t seen Jannik since he’s become the best player in the world,” the 2003 US Open champion added. “I’m not worried about any noise around his return affecting him, because that’s been there since last year’s U.S. Open and he won two majors in that time. I think he has the respect of people in the locker room, even if they disagree with the confusing nature of the doping protocols and what they may view as inconsistencies. Maybe you have a couple of yahoos who are more interested in tweeting opinions than actually reading facts, but Jannik is pretty understated. I don’t think he’s going to walk in with any sort of combative nature.” The American considered that, in any case, playing on clay definitely does not favour Sinner, and that having fewer clay tournaments to prepare for the French Open will make it more difficult for him to return to his previous level of dominance before the suspension. “The fact is he’s coming back, but he’ll be coming back on the surface that is probably not his favourite.” “That doesn’t mean he’s not great on it, but he’s judged against his own shadow and if there’s anything concrete under his feet then he’s dominant, he added. “His preparation for Paris will likely be affected. I don’t think you can be out for three months and come back as if nothing has changed. Maybe it’s like riding a bike, but I don’t think playing a normal schedule and not playing for three months are the same.

Steelers HC Mike Tomlin gives update on Aaron Rodgers, QB situation

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin met with the media on Sunday ahead of the NFL's owner's meetings and offered an update on the team's quarterback situation, as well as its pursuit of free agent Aaron Rodgers. The update: There is no update. At least nothing definitive. Tomlin said the Steelers have no definitive timeline for the Rodgers situation to unfold, while they continue to explore their other options in free agency and the draft. He also seems content with the process taking some time, adding that the start of training camp would be the first time not having somebody else signed would be an issue for the team. Rodgers visited with the Steelers nearly two weeks ago, but that was only described as a "get to know each other" meeting. There has been no update or progress from either side since. With the calendar set to roll over to April, and with the 2025 NFL Draft just a few weeks away, the only two quarterbacks on the Steelers roster are Mason Rudolph, back for his second stint with the team, and Skylar Thompson. Neither option is ideal for a starting role, while they are looking at a complete overhaul of their quarterback depth chart for the second year in a row. It is awfully difficult to win with that sort of instability at the most important position on the field. Tomlin's lack of an update on Rodgers, as well as the Steelers' quarterback situation, really seems to drive home the fact the organization did not have a solid plan going into the offseason. They did not make much of an effort to retain either Russell Wilson or Justin Fields and have missed out on pretty much every other veteran quarterback that was available. When it comes to the remaining free agents, Rodgers is pretty much it. And there is little about that option that should make Steelers fans optimistic given his age and rapidly declining play the past few years. Not to mention the sideshow circus level of distractions he can bring, The Steelers hold the No. 21 overall pick, but it is a weak quarterback class and the top prospects may not be available when they are on the clock. No matter who starts on opening day, it will be their fifth different Week 1 starting quarterback over the past five years, going from Ben Roethlisberger to Mitch Trubisky, to Kenny Pickett, to Justin Fields, to whoever this year's will be. It also seems verly likely, based on the available options, that streak will continue for a sixth season in 2026 if they do not get the position right this offseason. The Steelers finally made a real upgrade to their wide receiver room this offseason by adding DK Metcalf to go with George Pickens and Calvin Austin, addressing a huge weakness from a year ago. Now they just have to figure out who is going to actually be passing them the football.
