Chicago Bulls guard Ayo Dosunmu posted his first YouTube video in late December, vlogging about how he spent Christmas surprising his uncle with a Rolex and paying for strangers' groceries. The Chicago native aimed to showcase another side of himself beyond basketball, which he accomplished.
Since then, Dosunmu has released two more vlog episodes, along with live streams on YouTube and Twitch. While many NBA players have ventured into content creation, Dosunmu’s vlogs offer a personal twist. Unlike most creators on social media who highlight only the best moments of their lives, Dosunmu did not shy away from the challenges that come with being a professional basketball player. In both episodes, he candidly shared various aspects of his life in the NBA, including delayed flights, non-mandatory practices, and even details about his season-ending surgery.
In his most recent live stream , Dosunmu participated in a virtual five-on-five pick-up game at “The REC” in NBA 2K25 alongside his teammates Matas Buzelis and Lonzo Ball. While playing, Dosunmu and Buzelis engaged with the chat and discussed their ongoing two-game losing streak, whereas Ball was unavailable since he was on FaceTime.
Fans jokingly commented on Buzelis’s poor performance, and during a brief interaction with Dosunmu, he shared that out of the starting backcourt, Josh Giddey plays 2K, but Coby White does not. Buzelis also found the comment “minus 25 team chemistry” amusing.
Dosunmu may even do a live stream with fellow Chicago native and content creator Kenny Beecham soon. Viewers saw an element of team interaction that was not obtainable during the regular season.
Asked Ayo if Giddey or Coby plays 2K.
— Alejandro D. (@LocalBullsFan) April 15, 2025
He said Giddey plays but Coby doesn’t.
Matas follows up by saying Giddey sucks tho
Ayo responded saying he can’t be worse than you (Matas)
This level of personal accessibility is a new phenomenon that wasn’t available 25 years ago. Even today, players often maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with the media, holding back elements of their personality. In the digital age, fans desire to connect with players on their favorite teams more than ever. Dosunmu’s live streams and vlogs may set a precedent for how professional athletes will develop their content creation platforms in the future.
