The Portland Trail Blazers have announced details for their upcoming Bill Walton Tribute Night, set for March 9 when the team hosts the Detroit Pistons at the Moda Center.
The event will celebrate Walton’s Hall of Fame career and his impact on and off the court. In-game videos will highlight Walton’s historic achievements, and members of the Walton family will be in attendance.
Trail Blazers alumni, including members of the 1977 Championship team, will also take part in various moments throughout the night.
Fans attending the game will receive a special Walton tie-dyed headband upon entry. The 100-Level concourse will feature memorabilia from Walton’s career, with a tie-dye 360 photo booth allowing fans to capture a memorable photo.
Rip City Clothing will offer exclusive Walton items, including a jersey patch worn by the Trail Blazers this season and a tie-dye wristband set, with all proceeds benefiting the Maurice Lucas Foundation. Halftime will feature a performance by the Garcia Birthday Band, a Grateful Dead tribute band.
Additionally, the Blazers are aligning the tribute with their second annual Grateful Dead Group ticket offer. Fans purchasing this package will receive a limited-edition tie-dyed Grateful Dead and Trail Blazers collaboration shirt.
Walton, a key figure in the Blazers’ 1977 NBA Championship, is considered one of the franchise’s greatest players. A two-time NBA All-Star in 1977 and 1978, Walton also earned the NBA MVP award in 1978 and was named to the All-NBA First Team that season.
He remains one of the most beloved big men from his era and a revered figure around the NBA.
