The Brooklyn Nets are next up in our series of NBA team betting guides. Full disclosure, I am kind of tired of talking about this flawed, but obviously talented team. They are third in the NBA title odds though so they are certainly going to be a factor this season.
Brooklyn has as much high-end talent as any team in the league though questions about availability and coaching make it hard to know what you are going to get from this team.
I am not a big believer that they can overcome their flaws but that is the beauty of sports, right?

Where to start? The season could have been one of great achievement but before you knew it James Harden was shipped to Philadelphia for Ben Simmons (and others and who didn't even play). Then in the first round of the playoffs, the Nets were swept by Boston. Did I mention that Kyrie Irving missed a chunk of games because he wasn't vaccinated and thus not able to play in most home games? It is amazing that this team was not among the worst in the league with everything that happened. This is the conundrum of Brooklyn.

Kevin Durant was making noise most of the offseason about trying to get out of Brooklyn but that seems to have subsided. Since then we have seen off-the-court turmoil in Boston and Golden State, which only helps the club's championship hopes, possibly. Speaking of helping the club, Simmons has actually been on the court during the preseason and if he is right it will be interesting to see how we plays with Durant and Irving. His skills seem complementary.
Not to be underestimated is having wing Joe Harris this season. He is one of the better deep shooters in the game and is a professional, so you don't have to worry about him from game to game. The talent is there for this team to achieve a lot, although I do wonder about the fit with Steve Nash as coach. This team probably needs a firmer hand, though the lack thereof might not creep up until the playoffs. It will be interesting to see what the closing lineups are going to be for this team.
Ben Simmons Defensive Player of the Year +2700
I am not a fan of his, not because he is not a very useful player, but because he has no self-awareness and doesn't really work on his game. The best and easiest thing he can do this season is showcase his elite defensive abilities. That combined with some team success could lead to a very good payoff. There are 10 players ahead of him on this list but he should probably be top 5 so there is good value there.
