As the 2025 NBA free agency approaches, many eyes are on the various talented players available, with De'Anthony Melton standing out as one of the more intriguing options.
Despite his challenging stint with the Golden State Warriors, which was hampered by injuries, Melton has proven himself to be a valuable asset, both on offense and defense.

More Bucks: Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo Believes He Can Take, Make More 3-Point Shot Attempts
Averaging 10.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game in the 2024-25 season, the 25-year-old guard has shown he can contribute at both ends of the floor.
With the chance to hit the open market this summer, Melton is expected to attract offers in the $10-15 million range from teams seeking a versatile defender and secondary playmaker.
One team who could be interested in Melton’s services is the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Bucks, featuring stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard, Kyle Kuzma, and Bobby Portis Jr., have a championship window open, and adding Melton to their roster could make them even more formidable.
Melton's strengths align perfectly with what the Bucks need.
His defensive prowess—capable of guarding multiple positions—would provide a valuable boost to a team with aspirations of competing deep into the playoffs. The Bucks have long relied on Antetokounmpo's incredible individual defense, but adding a player like Melton could give them added versatility and depth.

Melton's ability to switch on defense and disrupt opposing offenses would pair well with Lillard's offensive firepower, allowing the Bucks to field a well-rounded, two-way team.
Moreover, Melton's ability to knock down the occasional three-pointer would help stretch the floor for a Bucks offense that now includes both Antetokounmpo and Lillard. His ability to space the floor while also being an effective ball handler and playmaker would make him a valuable asset in the Bucks’ offensive system.
With players like Lillard and Antetokounmpo on the floor, Melton wouldn't be expected to be a primary scorer, but his offensive contributions, combined with his defense, would make him a perfect complementary piece.
Melton's journey in the NBA has seen him evolve from a promising defensive prospect to a reliable role player for multiple teams.
He started with the Houston Rockets before moving to the Philadelphia 76ers, where he solidified himself as one of the league's more underrated two-way players. His time in Golden State, although marred by injury, further emphasized his defensive value and ability to contribute in various ways.
For the Bucks, adding a player like Melton could be a key piece to a title-contending roster.
His combination of defense, playmaking, and occasional scoring would give them the depth needed to compete against the best in the league.
As the Bucks continue to refine their roster, Melton could be an ideal target this summer, bringing a unique skill set that would perfectly complement their superstar trio.

After getting bought out by the Brooklyn Nets last month, Ben Simmons joined the Los Angeles Clippers as they looked to make a push in the second half of the season. Since joining the team, Simmons is averaging 6.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.4 steals in five games. Additionally, he is shooting 58.3% from the field. While Simmons has looked solid since joining the Clippers, his availability is becoming an issue once again. The former No. 1 overall pick has missed five games since making his Clippers debut, including four straight as he deals with a knee injury. Recently, head coach Ty Lue provided an update on Simmons that will have an impact on the team in the short term. The Clippers are currently 34-29 and own the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference. Furthermore, they are just 1.5 games behind the Golden State Warriors for the No. 6 seed. As it stands, the Clippers would be in the Play-In Tournament this postseason, but they are hoping to continue their push and secure a playoff spot before the season ends. However, according to Lue, they will be without Simmons for their upcoming three-game road trip as they look to make this push. Simmons missing time is not a new concept to Nets fans. The Australian native appeared in just 90 games in parts of three seasons for the team, including just 15 in the entirety of the 2023-24 season. The Nets will take on Simmons and the Clippers just one more time this season on March 28. If he plays, it will be his first game against his old team since his departure.
As of Tuesday afternoon, it seemed that New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers would eventually agree to a deal with either the Pittsburgh Steelers or the New York Giants after Justin Fields agreed to a two-year, $40M deal to serve as Rodgers' replacement. According to Josh Carney of Steelers Depot, The Athletic's Chase Daniel, former NFL QB, revealed during Tuesday's edition of FS1's "The Facility" program that Pittsburgh previously made an offer to Sam Darnold. Darnold, the top quarterback of this free-agency class, agreed to a three-year, $100.5M deal to leave the Minnesota Vikings for the Seattle Seahawks. Daniel added that the money attached to Pittsburgh's proposal "wasn't as much as" what the Seahawks will be paying Darnold. Daniel also said that Darnold preferred to play under Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak rather than under Pittsburgh OC Arthur Smith. Kubiak was the San Francisco 49ers' passing game coordinator when Darnold was a backup with that organization during the 2023 season. "He felt more comfortable with the offense that they run," Daniel said about Darnold picking Seattle over Pittsburgh. Kubiak's offense is similar to what Darnold had playing under Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell this past campaign. According to Pro Football Reference, Darnold ended the 2024 regular season ranked fifth in the league with 4,319 passing yards, fifth with 35 passing touchdowns and sixth among qualified quarterbacks with a 102.5 passer rating. Mike DeFabo of The Athletic noted on Tuesday that the Steelers "did want Fields to be their quarterback in 2025" but only "at their price." Darnold would always be a more expensive option than Fields, so one could assume that the Steelers even touched base with Darnold's camp during the legal tampering portion of free agency, suggesting re-signing Fields was never Pittsburgh's preference. ESPN's Rich Cimini and others pointed out that Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin seemed to say plenty regarding his thoughts of Fields when Tomlin benched the 26-year-old in favor of veteran Russell Wilson this past October after Fields went 4-2 as a starter. It now appears Tomlin and Co. were never all that serious about re-signing Fields unless he gave the Steelers a significant hometown discount.
Into the fourth day of NFL free agency, most of the big names are off the market but some big dominos are yet to fall. What will Aaron Rodgers decide? Are the Vikings actually an option for the 41-year-old? If not, who will Minnesota sign to be J.J. McCarthy's backup quarterback? It's been a wild three days to start free agency, with Minnesota beefing up the offensive line with center Ryan Kelly and right guard Will Fries, while doing the same on the defensive line with Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave. The New York Jets have made a decision regarding Aaron Rodgers, and it’s not a cheap one. The Jets will be releasing Rodgers as of Wednesday. The move means the Jets will have to eat $49 million in dead money against their salary cap over the next two years. Since they are designating Rodgers as a post-June 1 cut, they will take a $14 million dead cap hit in 2025 and a larger $35 million dead cap hit in 2026. Ultimately, Rodgers’ tenure with the Jets will go down as a bust. Rodgers was traded to the Jets in April 2023 amid great fanfare. But he tore his Achilles tendon on his first drive of the opening game and ended up missing the entire season. Then in 2024, Rodgers was working his way back and trying to find his footing with the team. Though he passed for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, his Jets went 5-12. New York even made big moves, such as firing head coach Robert Saleh and acquiring Davante Adams in a trade, but nothing helped. Though these are big numbers for the Jets to take, the typical work around is to find a rookie quarterback to start. The Denver Broncos successfully maneuvered this when they took a big dead money cap hit to release Russell Wilson last year. They replaced him with rookie Bo Nix, who turned in a strong rookie season. Rather than go with a rookie though, the Jets signed Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million deal. When you add up the amount of money they’ll owe Fields plus Rodgers’ dead cap money, you end up with the equivalent salary of a highly paid quarterback.
