The Cavaliers are waiving point guard Jacob Gilyard, who came to training camp on an Exhibit 10 contract.
Gilyard, 26, is 5-foot-9 and has played a total of 42 NBA games with the Nets and Spurs, averaging 4.2 points and 3.4 assists.
The Cavs recently acquired his G League returning player rights in a trade with the Memphis Hustle. He appeared in one preseason game and is now likely headed to the Cleveland Charge.
An Exhibit 10 contract is a non-guaranteed minimum-salary deal. It doesn’t count toward a team’s cap unless the player makes the final roster. It also can be converted to a two-way deal before the season begins or mean guaranteed money if a player is waived and then stays on the G League club for at least 60 days.
The Cavaliers return to preseason action on Wednesday with a road game against former coach J.B. Bickerstaff and the Pistons.
