Height- 6’0″
Weight- 180 lbs
Named after NBA legend Kobe Bryant and nicknamed “Hawk Mamba,” Bryant was a three-star cornerback recruit from Hillcrest High School in Alabama. He committed to Kansas and started seven games as a true freshman for the Jayhawks. Bryant became a full-time starter as a sophomore where he recorded a team-high three interceptions, nine pass deflections, and a pick-six to earn First Team All-Big 12 honors. He continued his stellar play in 2023 once again earning First Team All-Big 12 honors with four interceptions and helping Kansas win their first bowl game since 2008. As a senior, he earned First Team All-Big 12 honors for the third straight year with another four-interception season and seven pass deflections.
Bryant is a highly competitive and aggressive cornerback who plays the game with unwavering confidence. He turned heads at the Shrine Bowl not only for his impressive performance, but also for his fiery competitiveness and trash-talking ability. Bryant is a playmaker on defense with great ball skills and natural instincts, who recorded 13 interceptions, 22 pass deflections and two pick-sixes during his college career. He is an opportunistic defender who reads the quarterback’s eyes well, and aggressively jumps passing lanes.
Although Bryant is a smaller corner, he has solid length and knows how to use his length effectively to disrupt routes. In press coverage, he is physical and has solid press technique. He possesses excellent change-of-direction skills, fluid hips, and quick footwork. Against the run, Bryant plays with relentless effort. He is a willing tackler and likes to deliver big hits.
Bryant is a small cornerback with a slender build. He weighed in at 180 lbs at the combine and just 171 lbs at the Shrine Bowl. He has some play strength concerns and struggles against bigger wide receivers in man coverage. While Bryant is a solid athlete overall, he has average long speed. He is aggressive against the run but does have some limitations in run support due to his size. He struggles to shed blocks and had a high number of missed tackles during his college career.
Bryant’s aggressive play style and inconsistent technique can lead to big plays for the opposing team. He gets beaten downfield at times and is oftentimes too grabby in coverage. Bryant recorded 12 total penalties during his last two seasons.
Bryant is an extremely competitive and aggressive cornerback. He has some physical limitations with a small frame, underwhelming play strength, and average long speed. However, his approach to the game, along with his natural instincts and ball skills, give him a chance to be a good starting cornerback in the NFL. Bryant has the ability to play both outside corner or nickel if needed at the next level, and likely fits best in a zone-heavy scheme in the NFL.
