Conley Is Also Frustrated About The Timberwolves' Inconsistency

The 2024-25 season has been marred with inconsistency for the Minnesota Timberwolves. They are a team with some of the most talented players in the NBA, but any fan would agree that they frustrating team.

The Timberwolves are led by a superstar in Anthony Edwards who rarely disappoints, but the rest of the team often struggles, which leads to some bad results. Even 17-year veteran Mike Conley Jr. would agree that their results have been frustrating.

With a 42-32 record, the Timberwolves sit in eighth seed in the Western Conference. For most years, that would have been enough to secure them a spot in the Playoffs.

However, they are in the ultra-competitive Western Conference when that kind of record is only present in the Play-In Tournament spots. Minnesota could have had a better record, but their inconsistency is a problem.

The Timberwolves Are Much Better Than Most People Think

Most NBA fans got a sneak peek of what the Timberwolves could be when they went on an eight-game winning streak in early March. They were superb during that stretch, as they were scoring at a good rate while locking up the opponents.

Unfortunately, alongside their sky-high ceiling, they also have quite a deep floor. They followed that winning streak up with three losses in four games, two being against depleted versions of the Pelicans and Pacers.

Minnesota's performances look amazing in one game and dreadful in the next. That is what Conley is frustrated about because they are not reaching their full potential.

"It's motivating and frustrating at the same time. It honestly is, because you look up, and you're like, 'Why weren't we doing that all season?' Why weren't we doing that every game? We have a lot of room to improve," Conley said after their impressive win against Phoenix. "We're not the team we want to be yet, and we got a couple of games before we get that Playoff run, and hopefully, we peak at the right time."

The Timberwolves Can Still Find Their Peak Form

During that eight-game winning streak, the Timberwolves had games when they did not have a fully healthy team. They did not have Rudy Gobert for a few games due to a back injury.

The Timberwolves are a juggernaut team on both ends of the floor, ranking sixth in defensive rating (110.7) and tenth in offensive rating (115.0). They are one of the four teams in the top 10 alongside top dogs like the Celtics, Cavaliers, and Thunder.

Minnesota's potential is through the roof, but they must maintain that consistency. With a fully healthy team, they can lock opponents down with a Rudy-led defense, while Ant and Julius Randle take care of the offense.

Everybody else must lock in if they want to succeed. The first goal they have is aiming for that sixth seed in the West to get a Playoff berth. It will be difficult because they are going up against the Clippers and Warriors, but an in-form Timberwolves team outclasses them.

Conley, coach Chris Finch, and the rest of the Timberwolves organization know their potential. They have to perform and prove they are one of the best teams in the league.
