Sacramento Kings star DeMar DeRozan was involved in a physical altercation at Yume Sushi in Calabasas on Friday night, an incident that came to light through a video shared by Hoop Central on X.
The footage, credited to @TMZ and @MrBuckBuckNBA, shows DeRozan pinning a man to the ground inside the restaurant before stepping back as the man demands his phone.
A woman’s voice can be heard urging DeRozan to “let him go,” while other patrons appear visibly shocked by the confrontation.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene later that evening and has since opened an investigation.
According to TMZ, an eyewitness reported that the incident began when the man shoved a phone with a bright light into DeRozan’s face, prompting the NBA veteran to knock the device away.
The man reportedly sustained injuries and was transported from the scene in an ambulance.
The altercation occurred just days after the Kings’ season ended with a 120-106 loss to the Dallas Mavericks in an NBA play-in game on April 16 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.
DeRozan, a 16-year NBA veteran who previously played for the Toronto Raptors, San Antonio Spurs, and Chicago Bulls, joined the Kings in a sign-and-trade last summer.
This season, he averaged 22.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.4 assists, serving as a key leader for the team.
The incident marks an unexpected off-court challenge for the 35-year-old six-time All-Star, and the NBA has yet to issue a statement regarding potential disciplinary action as the investigation unfolds.
