Dennis Rodman publicly responded to Trinity Rodman's comments about their strained relationship.
The U.S. women's soccer star criticized her father during a recent appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast. Trinity called Dennis "an extremely selfish human being" whom her family has repeatedly worked to protect.
"He's not a dad. Maybe by blood, but nothing else," Trinity said. "Hearing his voice is painful."
On Thursday, Dennis shared a collage of family photos with a long post directed to Trinity.
"Sorry I wasn't the Dad you wanted me to be but either way I still tried, and I still try and never will stop," Dennis wrote on Instagram. "I will keep trying even when you're being told as an adult not to respond to my phone calls. I will try even when it's difficult and if it takes a long time. I'm always here and tell you all the time (rather it's your voice or voicemail) how proud I am."
Trinity recalled Dennis unexpectedly showing up to a Washington Spirit playoff game during her 2021 rookie season. Caught off guard by his rare appearance, Trinity cried on the field and was angry with him for making the moment about himself.
They shared an emotional embrace after the game, and Trinity later crafted a social media post about improving their relationship. However, Trinity "lost hope in ever getting him back" when she stopped hearing from him again.
"Stupid me for thinking that was gonna be some type of new spark," Trinity said on the podcast. "That was me every single time. He would come around, and I'd be like 'Okay, here it is again. We're gonna start something. He's gonna be around.' Boom, months and months and months [without speaking]. This time, it was years."
Trinity said the MLS quarterfinals matchup was her only game he attended, but Dennis claimed he's followed the 22-year-old's career closely and was blocked from going to another unspecified match.
"I watch you play all the time," he wrote. "Actually flew in to watch you play and was told not to show up bc who I was with instead and me just wanting to support you. So I watched you from my hotel balcony just to make everybody happy. I love all my kids."
