Grant Hill Reveals Team USA’s Two Team Captains
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

After their 86-72 victory over Canada on Wednesday night, Team USA will now be heading to Abu Dhabi for two more tune-up games for the upcoming Olympics. The Americans will face Australia and Serbia in exhibition contests ahead of the Olympic Tournament in Paris later this month.

Team USA has without a doubt the most star-studded roster heading into the international tournament, which makes them the heavy favorite to go and win the gold medal. Among the group, however, a couple of individuals have stood out to serve as the leaders of the pack, so to speak.

Team USA News: LeBron James, Stephen Curry Are Unofficial Team Captains, Per Grant Hill

USA Basketball managing director Grant Hill recently sat down with former Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski for an interview. When Coach K suggested that LeBron James and Stephen Curry were the two leaders of the squad, Hill revealed that the pair has been dubbed as the unofficial captains of the team:

“I’d say the two unofficial captains,” Hill said of LeBron and Curry. “The conditioning, the professionalism, the energy … they have been absolutely fantastic. We know their legacy, we know what they’ve done throughout their careers. The fact that at this point they still want to come back… It speaks about the experience.”

Hill had nothing but high praise for these two icons and their commitment to the American cause. At the same time, however, the former NBA superstar also pointed out that their respective stints with the national team helped mold both James and Curry to become who they are today:

“For both of them, they were a part of USA Basketball before they learned to be NBA champions,” Hill continued. “It gave them a foundation. It taught them how to win. It taught them how to be a part of something bigger than yourself. I think LeBron understands that and cherishes that. I know Steph as well.”

As Hill said, LeBron and Steph are now the elder statesmen in the group, and it’s now their turn to help the young stars on the team make the most out of this extraordinary experience.
