The Memphis Grizzlies (48-34) punched their ticket to the 2025 NBA Playoffs on Friday night, defeating the Dallas Mavericks 120-106 in the final game of the Western Conference Play-In Tournament. The win sets up a daunting first-round matchup against the No. 1 seed Oklahoma City Thunder — a team that finished with the regular season's best record (68-14).
Despite a 40-point effort from Dallas forward Anthony Davis, Memphis prevailed behind a balanced team performance. All five starters scored in double figures, led by Jaren Jackson Jr. with 24 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Ja Morant and Desmond Bane each added 22 points and nine rebounds.
Rookie centerZach Edey contributed a strong double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Scottie Pippen Jr. and Santi Aldama combined for 24 points to round out the Grizzlies’ effort.
Following the win, the Grizzlies took to their official X account with a short, confident message as they look ahead to the playoffs:

Memphis now shifts its focus to a tough first-round battle with Oklahoma City. The Thunder have had the Grizzlies’ number in recent seasons, winning the last nine meetings between the two teams. Memphis' last win over OKC came back in December 2022.
Despite the odds, the Grizzlies remain confident. Only six eighth-seeded teams in NBA history have upset a No. 1 seed in the first round—the most recent being the 2023 Miami Heat team that went all the way to NBA Finals. Memphis will look to make history of its own by joining that exclusive list.
