The 2024-2025 Houston Rockets have been historic on the offensive glass. They are averaging the most offensive rebounds per game(14.8) by a team over the last 20+ seasons. Their great performance on the glass has the Rockets leading the league in second-chance points as well by a sizable margin. Houston is also the league’s best-rebounding team overall. Being able to rebound the ball effectively is a metric for success in the postseason. Will the Houston Rockets be able to shock the NBA world come playoff time?

Houston has been one of the NBA’s most surprising teams. They are 52-27 and locked into the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. Their offense has been weak. They are 14th in points scored , 23rd in field goal percentage, and 21st in three-point percentage. Shooting Guard Jalen Green is 25th in the league in points. Center Alperen Sengun is ninth in rebounds. He is also seventh in the league in offensive rebounds.
As is the case with Head Coach Ime Udoka’s teams, Houston has been led by its defense. They are fifth in points allowed, fifth in opposing field goal percentage, and eighth in opposing three-point percentage. It will be interesting to see if a strong defense can overcome a weak offense in the NBA Playoffs.
The Rockets finish out the regular season on the road against the Los Angeles Lakers and Clippers before returning home to face a Denver Nuggets team in freefall in the season finale. With the Rockets being the No. 2 seed heading into the playoffs, they may opt to rest their key players this week to ensure they remain healthy heading into the first round.
