Although the Golden State Warriors don't want to "trade their mortgage" for a player, they must address their slide out of the playoff picture if the franchise wishes to make the 16-team dance. Coincidentally, as their consistent losing loosens their grip in the Western Conference, the Warriors trade rumors bubble in light of the latest Bradley Beal update.
Despite a consistent reluctance to push the red button for a superstar or superstar-adjacent player, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr.'s ears may have perked up after the news of the Phoenix Suns' backup scoring guard emerged.
According to Fred Katz of The Athletic, the much-discussed contract of Beal could see a new benefactor for the 2024-25 season.
"Bradley Beal would consider waiving his no-trade clause for the right destination," Katz reported.
Before the Suns made the conscious decision to risk their future for Beal, the Warriors were among four teams on the former Washington Wizards star's preferred trade destinations.
Aside from Los Angeles Lakers LeBron James, Beal is the only player with a no-trade clause for his $251 million contract. Despite significantly lacking accolades, especially compared to James, sharing such a checkmate-level contractual advantage points to elite negotiating skills by his agent.
While the Warriors will unlikely trade for Beal, they could improve their roster by joining a three or four-team trade to upgrade their struggling unit marginally.
However, unless the Warriors trade for a Giannis Antetokounmpo-level player to complement Stephen Curry, they are unlikely to make a significant dent in the Western Conference playoff race.
