Insider Slams Knicks Struggling Offense

The New York Knicks haven't played their best basketball up until this point in their series with the Detroit Pistons.

If it weren't for a 21-0 run late in the fourth quarter of Game 1, the Knicks might be trailing 2-0 as the series moves to Detroit.

Luckily for the Knicks, they were able to salvage a split despite having a rough offensive showing that The Athletic insider James Edwards III criticized.

"Throughout Game 2, there were many examples of how the Knicks’ offense was all over the place. It was a party bag of frustration, maybe sparked by the lack of calls the team got in the first half. Even then, this team has too many veterans and too much talent to have the stinker of an offensive performer that it did on Monday night," Edwards wrote.

"The playoffs are a different beast. New York knows that. The margin for error is razor thin compared to the regular season, even for a team as talented as the Knicks. The one thing New York can’t do is make things easy for the Pistons. Not anymore. Otherwise, this season might end sooner than everyone anticipated."

The Knicks need a fire lit underneath them if they want to get back in the series, which continues with Game 3 in Detroit. A win would put the Knicks back in the driver's seat with a chance to take a commanding lead in Game 4, but a loss would push New York closer to the brink of elimination.

In order for the Knicks to re-take that series lead, the offense will have to be much better than it was in Game 2. If the Knicks can accomplish that, the panic button may be able to go away for a bit.
