Ahead of his matchup against the Lakers this weekend, Celtics star Jayson Tatum opened up on LeBron James and his historic season. According to Tatum, James isn't talked about enough for what he's doing at 40 years old.

“As much as we probably talk about LeBron, we probably don’t talk about him enough," said Tatum via Noa Dalzell of Celtics Blog. "Being 40, in his 22nd season, playing at an All-NBA level is an incredible testament to the work ethic that he’s put in."

"His game, his body, to stay in the best shape to be able to compete and perform at the highest level for over two decades now. Something that we should all strive to do, even if it might be unlikely. But it’s a joy to be able to compete against him in these matchups for however long we get to do it for.”

Tatum, 27, has had plenty of encounters with the King, both in the playoffs and regular season. He's had personal experience playing against LeBron and knows more than most about how tough of an opponent he really is.

At 40 years old, James is near the end of his basketball career but he continues to set an example in Los Angeles with averages of 25.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 8.5 assists per game this season. His historic longevity is hard to believe and Tatum believes it should be getting more recognition.

After surpassing 50,000 career points this month, LeBron James is already making history and he's not even done yet. At 40-21 this season, the King is in a position to compete for another title but first, he'll have to battle against his team's biggest rivals.

Tonight, the Lakers will face the Boston Celtics for the second time this season. Back in January, the Lakers beat the Celtics at home by double-digits thanks to LeBron James and Anthony Davis, who combined to score 44 points.

Of course, that was before the blockbuster trade for Luka Doncic. This Lakers team is entirely different and the entire NBA world will be watching to see how they stack up against one of the best teams in the East. Besides Luka, the key to their victory will be the performance of LeBron James.

If he can stay healthy and continues to produce at an All-Star level, the Lakers should stay within the top three as a consistent threat in the West. Whether they win or lose, however, LeBron deserves credit for what he's been able to do in his 22nd season.

Somehow, he's still one of the best players in the game and he consistently plays harder than athletes half his age. This is the legacy Tatum wants for his own career.

After winning the championship in 2024, Jayson is out to prove that he's the next one in line and following LeBron's example could be the best way for him to get the most out of his career. Tonight, he'll get the chance to make his own statement against LeBron and it seems he won't be taking it lightly.
