Despite being long-time rivals in the NBA, basketball legends LeBron James and Kevin Durant helped bring Team USA their fifth consecutive gold medal during the 2024 Paris Olympics.
For some players on the roster, like Stephen Curry and Joel Embiid, this was their first time ever winning a gold medal in their careers. However, James and Durant are all too familiar with this achievement, each having done so three and four times, respectively.
While there is no real debate about who the greater NBA player is between James and Durant, it becomes a little more interesting when discussing which of the two is the better Olympic basketball player. Recently, the Los Angeles Lakers star took to social media to provide his input on the conversation.
On Instagram, Team USA's official page posted a graphic regarding Durant. In the graphic, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, who coached the Olympic team over the summer, called Durant "the greatest men's Olympic player of all time."
James responded with just one word: "Facts!!!!!!!!!!!"
During the 2024 Paris Olympics, Durant became the first men's basketball player to win four gold medals. Furthermore, the Phoenix Suns star is also the all-time leading scorer in Olympic basketball history and has the American record for three-point field goals made during the Olympics (88).
James may have more milestones and accolades than Durant does in the NBA. However, when it comes to Olympic basketball, it seems that Durant (who "King James" himself believes is the greatest basketball player in its history) has the edge.
