The NBA community will have to say farewell to a longtime radio announcer once the 2024-25 regular season ends.
On Friday, the San Antonio Spurs announced that Bill Schoening will retire from broadcasting at the end of the season. He's been with the franchise for the last 24 years, cementing his status as one of the best radio announcers in the business.
Schoening had the chance to call four championship wins for the Spurs thanks to the trio of Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker.
"Bill Schoening, the longtime radio voice of the Spurs, will retire at the end of the season signing off for the final time on Sunday, April 13th," the team announced on social media. "Thank you, Bill for the unforgettable calls and commentary for the last 2,280 consecutive games! Forever a part of the Spurs Family and the franchise’s history."
Schoening admit that it's not easy walking away from something he loves dearly. However, he's ready to spend more time with his family and give back to the community.
"It’s difficult to walk away from a job that has provided so many fond memories and spawned many meaningful relationships, but it’s time for me to step away from full-time broadcasting and pursue some other interests like mentorship, volunteer work and time with family," Schoening said, via the San Antonio Current.
In 2022, Schoening was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame. It's safe to say he built a legacy that'll last a lifetime.
Congratulations to Schoening on a remarkable career.
