The Los Angeles Lakers hosted the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday in what was arguably the most anticipated NBA game of the season. The night’s biggest storyline was five-time All-NBA star Luka Doncic facing his former team for the first time since being traded in a blockbuster multi-team deal that also sent Anthony Davis to Dallas.
Doncic greeted each of his old teammates and then simply went to work against them. He notched the first triple of his Lakers career, putting up 19 points, 15 rebounds and 12 assists in the 107-99 win.
The 25-year-old had his family in the crowd for the game, with his father even exchanging greetings with former Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. Meanwhile, his mother, Mirjam Poterbin, took to Instagram before the game to share a post.
In the photo, Poterbin stood outside Crypto.com Arena, wearing a gold Lakers Doncic jersey. She kept the caption simple, using only three emojis.
"," she wrote.
After the game, Doncic spoke to the TNT crew, admitting he couldn't even put into words how he felt.
"I don't know how to explain it," he said. "I think the first quarter, second quarter, I don't know what was happening. It was just different. I can't even explain how I felt."
Doncic is in his seventh season in the NBA after being drafted third overall in 2018. In five games with the Lakers so far, the five-time NBA All-Star is averaging 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game. In those games, Los Angeles has a record of 3-2.
He and the Lakers will return to the court on Thursday to face the Minnesota Timberwolves. Tip-off is set for 10:30 p.m. ET.
