NBA Makes Historic Celtics Announcement

Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics have now secured two-straight wins despite Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday being out with injury.

On Wednesday, the Celtics, without Jayson Tatum as well, defeated Anfernee Simons and the Portland Trail Blazers 128-118 at TD Garden.

With three starters out against the Trail Blazers, Boston had to rely on Payton Pritchard and Derrick White for the majority of the scoring. And they delivered.

White notched a team-high 43 points on 14-of-26 shooting, while Pritchard added 41 points, 10 3-pointers made, and 10 rebounds.

Coming into the night, no Celtics duo had ever scored 40+ points each in a single game, not even Tatum and Brown. With White and Pritchard both eclipsing 40 points, they become the first duo in Boston history to both have 40+ points in the same game.

The NBA announced the news on X.

"Payton Pritchard & Derrick White forever cement themselves in @celtics history They become the FIRST duo to score 40+ PTS in the same game from the storied franchise!"

NBA fans were left impressed with White and Pritchard's historic night, taking to social media to leave their thoughts.

"Celtics' guards making history with those buckets!" one user said.

"That (expletive) was crazy," added another.

"Legendary performance! These two just wrote their names in Celtics history," wrote a third.

"Them boys were making it rain," commented a fourth.

"Making history in green! Pritchard & White just etched their names in Celtics lore. Who saw this coming?" asked a fifth.

"together they are achieving," posted a sixth.

The Celtics have a long list of duos throughout its storied history that were unable to accomplish what Pritchard and White did. Some notable pairs include Bill Russell and John Havlicek, Larry Bird and Kevin McHale, and Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, among many others.

With the win, the Celtics have moved to 44-18 on the 2024-25 season. They will get Tyrese Maxey and the Philadelphia 76ers on Thursday.
