The Phoenix Suns' season has been nothing short of disappointing.
At 30-36, the Suns are 3.5 games behind the Dallas Mavericks for the last spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament.
Over their last 10 games, the Suns are an abysmal 3-7.
Kevin Durant was the subject of trade rumors around the trade deadline in February, but stayed put in Phoenix. Similar questions have started to arise about other players on the team.
If the Suns were going to blow it up and rebuild, a major decision would have to be made about Devin Booker's future.
It would be one thing to trade Durant, who would be 37-years-old at the start of next season. But it would be another thing entirely to trade the 28-year-old Booker.
Suns owner Mat Ishbia spoke with ESPN's Tim MacMahon on the subject of Booker's future and if they would look into trading Booker upon a rebuild.
"Never happen,” Ishbia said. “It’s silly. So here’s what I’ll tell you: I have Devin Booker in the prime. In order to win an NBA championship, you got to have a superstar. You got to have a great player.”
Even with Durant on the team, Booker has been the face of the Suns.
He helped lead the team to an appearance in the NBA Finals in 2021 before losing in six games.
Booker is still under contract for three seasons after this. It would be difficult to rebuild without a franchise cornerstone like him.
However, if Ishbia decides that cutting costs will be the main focus of the rebuild, seeing the Suns cash in on Booker wouldn't be out of the question.
Price didn't seem to be an issue when they brought Durant in, so seeing Ishbia pivot that quickly and go against his word would be shocking.
