Jaden Ivey was supposed to be a huge part of what the Detroit Pistons wanted to do this season.
They're already the talk of the NBA thanks to their incredible turnaround from last season's 14-68 record to this season's 43-36 record and counting.
The thing is, much of their progress from the NBA basement into an NBA playoff team has come without Ivey after he suffered a broken fibula in his left leg on Jan. 1 against the Orlando Magic.
That was a blow for the Pistons, though they continued fighting without Ivey as Cade Cunningham stepped up to become a bona fide superstar.
In the meantime, though, Ivey has been rehabbing and the Pistons just dropped a major update on how he's doing.
"He has been cleared for basketball activity and will now enter the beginning phase of a re-conditioning progression along with a continued progression of court work. Ivey's status will be updated in another two weeks," the Pistons said in a statement on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

Ivey was having the best year of his career before the injury, averaging 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
The Pistons' biggest need is arguably a superstar next to Cunningham for the team to take the next step, and it seemed as if Ivey was slowly but surely developing into that player.
Ivey surely wants to come back and help the Pistons in the playoffs if he can, but it's worth noting that head coach J.B. Bickerstaff has mentioned that the Pistons will be cautious with his recovery.
"We’ll take our time and we’re not going to ever put him in a position where we feel it’s forced or rushed, where something even worse can happen," Bickerstaff told reporters earlier this week, according to Marlowe Alter of the Detroit Free Press.
Regardless, Thursday's update is an encouraging one.
