Former Toronto Raptors forward Rudy Gay is the latest player to speak out negatively about their time in Canada.

Gay only played in 51 games with the Raptors as he was initially traded from the Memphis Grizzlies to Toronto.

During the 2012-13 season, he played in 33 games. The 6’8″ forward put up 19.5 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists on 42.5 percent from the field and 33.6 percent from 3-point range.

That following season, Gay only appeared in 18 games. His stats would largely remain the same with 19.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists with his 3-point percentage increasing to 37.3 percent.

Now that Gay is out of the league, he was asked about his time in Toronto. In which he would not have positive things to say, via Knuckleheads Podcast:

“That weak ass accent they got! they hate me, I don’t know why they hate me. You ever got traded from somewhere and the fans boo you? They traded me, I ain’t ask for no trade”

Granted it was a small sample size, Gay played his best basketball as a Raptor. He played alongside a young DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry had joined the team in the 2012-13 season.

Frankly, Gay was a foundational piece to what Toronto was building. It would not be long till the Raptors would turn into an extremely competitive team.

Unfortunately, things did not pan out for the veteran forward in Canada. But, he is not the only player to speak negatively about the Raptors and Canada as a whole.

It gets to a point, where if this organization does not have a positive image around the NBA. In addition to opposing players not liking to play in Canada, but that is mainly Eastern Conference players.

Former Raptor Rudy Gay takes shot at Toronto

This is not the first time Rudy Gay has been outspoken about his time in Toronto. When initially traded to the Raptors, the front office envisioned Gay as a core piece to their foundation.

However, the now 38-year-old ripped into Toronto as he revealed that the trade in 2013 was out of his control.
