It was a historic night for Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr on Sunday. This is after the four-time NBA champion coach led his team to an impressive road victory in Game 1 of their first-round NBA Playoffs series against the Houston Rockets.

Kerr did a great job of keeping his players composed despite Houston's comeback run in the second half. The Warriors mounted a seemingly insurmountable 23-point lead in the third quarter, only to allow the Rockets to come storming back with a 17-3 run to cut down the lead to just nine points entering the final frame.

The Warriors were able to hold off Houston's comeback attempt, however, in order to score a crucial 95-85 victory.

This wasn't a typical win for Kerr. His first victory in the 2025 NBA Playoffs marked the 59-year-old's 100th win in the postseason. He is now just the seventh coach in NBA history to reach the century mark for wins in the playoffs.

The Warriors reacted to the historic news by sending a message on X.

"A HISTORIC milestone for Coach Kerr " posted the Warriors.

The NBA also announced after Golden State's Game 1 win that Kerr's 100th career playoff victory moved him up to the No. 6 spot for most postseason wins. Kerr is now tied with Larry Brown on the elite list, and a win in Game 2 will see Kerr secure the sixth spot for himself.

The Rockets will do everything in their power to prevent that from happening, though, because they know full well that losing both games at home puts them in a terrible position in this series. Game 2 on Wednesday has now become a must-win contest for Houston if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive.
