What is One Reason Warriors Lost to Clippers?

Although the Golden State Warriors erupted for a signature third-quarter run against the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday, they couldn't hold onto the ball enough to finish the comeback. The Warriors lost 102-99, with second-half turnovers as a primary reason for the close-but-no-cigar finish.

Despite Stephen Curry and Draymond Green's moments of brilliance, the four-time NBA champions needed a third dance partner for a three-man attack. De'Anthony Melton didn't play against the Clippers due to an MCL sprain.

The veteran guard hasn't played since the Warriors beat the Dallas Mavericks 120-117 on Nov. 12.

Melton's on-court presence would have provided the Warriors another option in the fourth quarter instead of Curry and Green forcing their legendary two-way game. Despite lacking Kawhi Leonard in the lineup, the Clippers haven't forgotten how to play defense; Los Angeles ranks seventh in defensive rating.

Golden State accumulated three turnovers in the final quarter, all generated by Green and Curry. Without Melton, the Warriors lack a third ball-handler, as second-year guard Brandin Podziemski hasn't played to the same level as his rookie season. Furthermore, athletic wing Jonathan Kuminga is more of a finisher than a creator.

Without Melton on the court, Green and Curry must force the issue as they attempt to recreate the dynasty Warriors' magic.

However, against defensively disciplined teams such as the Clippers, a team can only run the same plays for a matter of time before the Tyronn Lue-coached team identifies the action.

Unfortunately, for Golden State, Melton is out indefinitely, meaning Curry and Green will continue to rub the lamp to see if any magic exudes from the plays that won them championships in the past.
